Try it on Tuesday - My Favourite Things

Hello Everyone!

It's time for the first challenge of the year over at Try it on Tuesday and we have a good for one for you! For the next fortnight our challenge is MY FAVOURITE THINGS.

We would like to see your favourite product, your favourite technique or maybe even your favourite colour! Whatever 'favourite' you can think of! Just make sure to tell us about it in your post.

My two favourite things are TEXTURE and GLITTER so I have included both in spades! For the background I used some homemade texture paste and a Memory Box stencil to create some texture. Then I sprayed the panel with Tim Holtz distress sprays Weathered Wood and Iced Spruce.

I splattered on a little bit of water and some distress stains Weathered Wood and Iced Spruce to shabby it up a bit, then I dabbed all of the raised areas very lightly with my Tim Holtz Brushed Pewter paint to give the pattern a nice shimmery look.

The clock was cut using my brand new Tim Holtz Weathered Clock die and then I used Tim's coloured crackle technique to give it an amazing texture. I used Gathered Twigs, Walnut Stain, Black Soot and Iced Spruce. I also added a little bit of Distress Paint Tarnished Brass and some DecoArt Dazzling Metallics White Pearl paint here and there for a little extra metallic look.

Around the edge of the back panel, I used Ranger liquid pearls to make a frame and then I sprayed the entire edge with distress ink Tarnished Brass. HERE IS WHERE THINGS GOT INTERESTING...

I sprayed the Tarnished Brass with water because I wanted to lighten the colour a bit, but instead of getting lighter, the colours starting separating. What I ended up with was this amazing mix of yellows, oranges and white pearlescent glitter! WHAT!!!! LOVE IT! Until Tim Holtz gives it a name, I am calling it the Separated Tarnished Brass Technique!!

The '2015' was made from crafter's clay and a fondant mold. I coated it with Picket Fence crackle paint then rubbed Gathered Twigs into the cracks, then painted it with Tarnished Brass and dabbed on some white pearl paint.

My New Year's resolution is to pull out some of the billion die sets I own that I have never used! So, the leaves were cut with a very old Spellbinders die. I drew on the veins with liquid pearls and then used the same Separated Tarnished Brass Technique. They are also coated with glitter.

I enjoyed the look of the Separated Tarnished Brass Technique so much that I decided to carry that colour through the entire card. The roses were made using hot glue from my glue gun and my new rose mold!! I painted them with Picket Fence crackle paint, spritzed them with Tarnished Brass distress spray, soaked them with water causing the spray to separate and then I coated them with Rock Candy dry glitter! Aren't they pretty!

The steampunk clock in the center was made using crafter's clay and a Mod Podge mold. I coloured it with Tarnished Brass paint then antiqued it with Black Soot and highlighted it with Brushed Pewter.

The clock hands were coated with home made glitter paste and highlighted with Tarnished Brass and Brushed Pewter paints.

The strip running down the card is vellum with gold embossed musical notes, although I really tried to do this on tissue for the Mixed Media Card Challenge this month, but it just didn't work. Sad face.

The bells were painted with Tarnished Brass and then coated with Rock Candy distress dry glitter. Looks like I missed a spot on that one there...oops! lol

I love using my silicone molds with hot glue. It's so easy to make your own embellishments this way, isn't it? Well done on putting those "forgotten" dies to some use too. I should do that too - I still have quite a few I've had for what seems like forever, but never used them. *ooops* I love those little bells too. Such a great way to use them!
