Frilly and Funkie - Let the Words do the Talking

Hello Everyone!

It's time for another challenge over at Frilly and Funkie. Sue is our hostess this time around and she has chosen the theme "Let the Words do the Talking". She would like you to make a vintage or shabby chic project and include a meaningful saying. A sayings that speaks to you and inspires you to do the things you do. One lucky winner will receive a $25 gift certificate to Linda's shop The Funkie Junkie Boutique!

I have listed all the supplies at the end of the post, but if you have any specific questions about this card, please let me know in the comments. The only product I missed are these ivory Heirloom roses from Tim Holtz. The stick pins are from my stash.

UPDATE:
My card won awards in the following wonderful challenges:

All of the following products that I used can be purchased at The Funkie Junkie Boutique

***
One of our vacation days was spent checking out the Harbour downtown. We live only ten minutes or so from Lake Ontario now, so we intend to take full advantage!! These pictures are from our walk down the boardwalk just before dinner.

OK, THIS GUY STOLE MY BOAT NAME!!!

We were a bit late getting to the end of the pier. The sun was tucked away by then, so we couldn't get a clear view of the endless water line. Next time.

My first swan, never seen one up close before. Holy frickadoodle, they are HUGE!

Off in the distance, you can see a row of pink trees, boy were they ever pretty when we got up close! I took lots of artsy shots of the flowers on these trees! Good shots for practising special effects.

And back at the home front, we have my token morning coffee shot...

AND THE CUTEST FREAKING BABY RED SQUIRREL THAT I'VE EVER SEEN!!!
I WANTS TO KEEP HIM!!

That's it for today. Thank you for stopping in and for all the amazing comments. If you have any questions or interesting tidbits about today's wildlife, please let me know.

  20. Pamellia, my dear friend, this is stunningly beautiful! I feel like I can just fall into the layers and dimension you achieve in your creations.. like the softest, fluffiest cloud. :o) Everything is always floating! This Pion collection is one of my favorites and you've used it so uniquely. Love the die work, sweet flower and accents, and of course the layered trims! I especially love the sentiment and the theme for the challenge. I hope I can play along, as it speaks to me! Gorgeous work, my friend!

Oooh, your Harbour pictures are lovely! Beauty abounds at every turn in your area, doesn't it? :o) Everything is gorgeous. The pink trees are exquisite and I love the sweet baby squirrel! I have a soft spot for swans, which is why I had such fun with my swan card. There are so many around me and I say hi to them every chance I get. One day there were dozens floating together in a lake and it was so magical... whisked me away to my favorite ballet, Swan Lake! :o) Have a wonderful day, Pamellia!

  42. Oh! GORGEOUS GORGEOUS GORGEOUS, I haven't enough words for your beautiful beautiful card. Love the pearls and "diamonds", the lace and die and oh! EVERYTHING.

I love how you seem to be overwhelmed with nature as if you are seeing things for the first time, your enthusiasm for all things natural is awesome. Swans are huge and watch out if you are close, their wings can break a leg! they will attack if they think their young are threatened. The flowers look like almond blossoms, love the harbour and it's paintings and the mixed red and grey squirrel, you should look the UK red squirrel up, it's so red! Your morning shot is so very beautiful.
Have a lovely day experiencing wonderful things.

  43. Wow, Pamellia, I have so much to catch up with your gorgeous blog, but I'm looking forward to it. Only time for one blog visit this morning, so my first choice was obvious! And so happy I did; you filled my day with delight already! You have really taken those papers where I'm sure no one will ever take them--to a place of beauty and delicate layers. I love the mixed media die and you have taken it up a notch by turning it on it's side and layering it to allow those romantic roses to peek through. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this card! I could gush all day, but that's all the free time for today!

Beautiful shots; I love seeing the lake, and that view over the water is spectacular. Congrats on your first swan--such graceful animals. Wait 'til you get to hear their trumpet! I do miss feeding the swans at Mary Jo's home. Boo Hoo! Your coffee shots are amazing--all we have here is grey and more grey misty/humid mornings. Give that baby squirrel a pinch on the cheek for me--he's adorable! Big hugs!

  47. I wonder if that baby red squirrel heart your dear heart's request, Pamellia!? We shall see LOL Beautiful photos of Snug Harbor! And those brilliantly pink blossoms! Wow! But it is your card that has captured my heart. The layers of laces are very pretty - I had not considered doing that before - and the delicately cut words contributing to your sentiments look fantastic! So pretty, and delicate - it almost reminds me of my mom's old sewing room with all the fabrics out as she selected which ones to put together in her designs - with your layers or papers. hugs, de

  49. It's rather hard to JUST let the words do the talking on one of your LUSCIOUS creations Pamellia because every little detail of your work "speaks" to me - the colors, the lace, the flowers, the butterfly, the embellies and Mama used to have a stick pen just like that one too! HOWEVER... the words on this card are very powerful and true so they definitely TALK to me too! BEAUTIFUL card.

Such super photos - loved them all. The trees were so pretty - I would love to paint some of those blooms you captured! And I just have to tell you - it looks to me like that baby red squirrel is "crackled" - ehehehehhe. I love the texture you captured on the fur - wow. Such a FAB photo of that sweetie. Xj.

  50. A beautiful, well actually, beyoutiful project! It's funny how others view things that we take for granted, eg the swan, they are on pretty much every river or lake over here, just don't get them angry! Can we go shares on the baby squirrel? Just too too cute. Cara x

Also very much enjoyed the marvelous scenic shots you've so graciously shared. So much of nature's beauty captured in all the photos, and I especially loved the morning coffee one. Also the graceful swan. Your closeup gives a good feel for just how large these creatures must be. So pleased that you are able to enjoy all the nature that it's obvious, you love. (what a nifty place to paint a leaping fish, under a bridge!) TFS

  55. Stunning card, I love all of the lace, both the real lace and the filigree lace effect you have created. Such pretty baby pinks and gorgeous butterflies, your card is really beautiful and so delicate.

Great shots of the harbour. I had to smile at your reaction to the swan, they are protected here and you see then virtually everywhere there is a body of fresh water. They are very majestic and can become quite tame when they get use to people - I have had then taking food from my hand. But they are not keen on dogs and become VERY aggressive when protect their nests or young.

I love the photos of your outing - looks like a great place to visit! Yes, swans are big - when I was little my Grandad had swans that used to come for their tea every day - I use to love to feed them but never used to hang around once they had eaten all their food! 63. I love your card. It is dreamy and textured and full of meaning. I also love your pictures. Love the harbor, the swan, (t's a mute swan, BTW - there are also trumpeters) the crabapple blooms, and the baby red squirrel. You don't want to keep him. They are terribly destructive things, really. They only look cute! Thanks for entering our Gem &/or Pearls Challenge this week at Crafty Sentiments Challenge. Julie, DT member

  64. Yummyliscious! The words have done the talkin and your fingers have done the walkin through the layers and paints used. Gorgeously gorgeous design and details. This is such a soft and delicate design and I am thoroughly enjoying it! Wowzers Bubbles! Your photos are spectacular and that little baby squirrel is. ADORABLY ADORABLE! Swans are really cool (and big) and soft. One had a chunk taken out of her chest by a dog and I had to pluck her feathers out of the wound so we could see her up. She was really well behaved considering the circumstances and we sewed up her friend, a mallard duck. Both recovered beautifully. Hugz to you muffin!

PS-have you even done a google image search? I use that if I have a picture a tree or flower I want to know more about. Just drag and drop the pic into google image search.

    1. Thanks so much Doc!! Oh yeah, I've Googled until I'm blind with flower images! Problem is for every flowering tree or shrub, there are so many variations that all look so similar, I can't really be sure of which it is. Then there's also the issue, that when you find something similar, you are relying on the the person who uploaded the image, to be accurate with what they are claiming it is... that's just not a reliable source.

I've been reading a book about trees and plant life, but there are thousands, and the pictures are so small, it's hard to really tell for sure. I figure the best way to know, is to wait and see what grows on the tree in the summer time. If apples grow, then I know it's an apple tree. lol

Thanks again my friend. hugs :)

  67. I am so late in posting here, I am still thinking about the trees, lol!! From the distance, and up close (by their leaves, and petal color, and where you live), they look like some type of cherry (but I would not expect fruit - most varieties are decorative, as around the Tidal Basin in Washington DC, for instance, and my own front yard). Love your card - you inspire me to use my die cuts more often. I have, ahem, many and then some! xxx Lynn
