I have a special treat today for a very dear bloggy friend. This was the card I sent her for her birthday, and although it hasn't arrived yet, I'm going to share it with you and hope she doesn't see this post until after it arrives. This crafter has not only inspired me with her art but with her kind sweet personality as well. She has been a valued friend to me and I hope to show her how grateful I am with this card and video. I hope you enjoy this Doc!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY NIKI aka DOC!!!!
Please visit Niki - Pawsitively Creative Crafts and give her some birthday bloggy love!
This was actually meant to be my DT project for Anything But Cute this month. I'm a little late getting it posted, but you really don't want to miss out on our challenge for May.
As we celebrate our First Anniversary at Anything But Cute, we want you to celebrate what you do best...mixed media! This is your chance to do it your way, in your favourite style...so pull out those inks and paints and show us what you're made of! You can make anything you want, in any theme you want and any style you want, just as long as it has some mixed media products on it and no cute images. HAVE FUN!
Along with all of our Design Team inspiration, we are also featuring projects by some of our Favourite Artists from our first year, and we also have a super line up of prizes from amazing sponsors like The Funkie Junkie Boutique, Emerald Creek Craft Supplies and Alleystamp!
This one's for you Doc, I sure hope you don't mind all the pastels!! lol Thank you to everyone for your support. If you have any questions, drop me a comment at YouTube. Hugs
The flowers on this card are handmade out of ribbon. If you would care to watch the tutorial for those, here is the video. The colours are different, but the technique is exactly the same.

Hubby and I went to the Japanese Gardens on Sunday. It was quite beautiful, but we were disappointed to see that the cherry trees were not in bloom. Apparently, they may not bloom at all this year. They think that the horrible ice storm we got so late in the season may have killed the flower buds. Most likely the trees will go straight to leaves.
Gives us something to look forward to next year I guess. In the meantime, there were some trees with beautiful pink flowers on them...can anyone help my identify what they are??
There were several ponds and they were all filled with wildlife. There were small trickling water falls and there was even a rock garden. It was just so pretty. I took many many photos...more than I could ever show you, without boring you stupid! lol
MY FIRST TURTLE...AHHHHHH!! FUN!
My token morning coffee shot...nice right!
A typical morning feeding time on my balcony. Everyone picks a chair...hilarious to see them all lined up sometimes. There are so many new faces this spring, I haven't even named them all yet.
That's it for today. Thank you for stopping in and for all the amazing comments. If you have any questions or interesting tidbits about today's wildlife, please let me know.
Wonderful card, Niki will surely love it. Great photos, too, that tree looks like a magnolia. Hugs, Valerie

What a gorgeous card you made for your friend Pamellia, that crackle background is fab! I'm amazed how big your scizzors are for fussy cutting...LOl...I use tiny ones. The colours you used are so dreamy, she will be delighted. What a shame re the cherry trees but as you say, one for next year. The tree in flower looks like a Star Magnolia to me. Enjoy your week, hugs xx
ReplyDeleteStunning Japanese garden pictures Pamellia. I loved watching your video, for, the step by steps for your stunning card. I always love how you layer your elements. The flowers are stunning from ribbon and I adore the colours, added epoxy sticker and bird cages both stamped and wooden. Lovely piece . Hugs. Tracy x

Gorgeous card Pamellia, I love all of your beautiful embellishments and the fabulous crackle background!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Tammy
Another very pretty card and Doc will absolutely love it. Sorry that the cherry blossoms weren't out. I saw on the news at noon that they don't expect blooms until the end of May at High Park so you might still get to see some.
ReplyDeleteThat is a magnolia and is the tree I had mentioned to you that I had already seen in bloom - guess the ice didn't hurt them. They are so pretty while the blooms are on the tree but they don't stay there for long and then they drop those pretty petals all over, which is not a good thing when it rains because then they get slimy under foot.
It looks like the squirrels have taken over your patio furniture. Do they move when you want to sit out there or have they become squatters?
Such gorgeous colours on your fabulous card. The prettiest of flower, lots of interest and loving the layers. How fabulous is it that you get your cute squirrels for company for breakfast? Yes the flower/tree is a Magnolia, I was really pleased I could identify it xx
ReplyDeleteYep, Cec is right, it is a Magnolia, a Star Magnolia - I only know because we have a white one in our garden. Magnolias are quite distinctive, they flower first and then once they go over, the leaves come out...
ReplyDeleteYour card for Niki is exquisite, I really enjoyed seeing how you brought this beauty to life - the crackle looks incredible! As always, love your photos. Hugs, Anne xx

Every project you create is jaw dropping...wow, I so wish I had a little of your talent! Right now, I could just use a little time in my craft room, hehe! Having a hard time getting in their these days...darn kids and grand kids are keeping me on my toes, lol!
ReplyDeleteYour pics are amazing of the Japanese Gardens and of course your morning coffee shot...wow, just so pretty!
Have a super day my friend!
Sherrie K
An utterly delightful card Pamellia with a beautiful fresh colour palette and in your own wonderful inimitable style, love it. The Japanese garden looks a beautiful place to visit and my flowering cherry tree has the same problem, no blossom and straight to leaves, the result of the strange winter and start to spring with late frosts, but my pear and apple trees are blossoming well. Love seeing your morning visitors all lined up eating breakfast, how funny. Xxx
ReplyDeleteLove that gorgeous card Pamellia - the dimension and all those pastels - pure bliss.
ReplyDeleteThe tree is a magnolia stellata - The flowers are finer than a 'normal' magnolia.
Blessings

How inspired to add the cut out bird cage with the images of the bird cage. Beautiful card Pamellia, but I wouldn't expect anything else from you. Doc is very lucky to get this card. It is GORGEOUS. I love your flowers.
ReplyDeleteThe flower, as you may know by now, is a Magnolia. Japanese gardens are so tranquil aren't they? Beautiful photos, shame about the cherry flowers, perhpas they will appear, the gardens over here are doing strange things this year. Your squirrels are so funny, they know you spoil them

Stunning card and thank you for the great video! I bet she will totally adore and treasure it when it arrives!
ReplyDeletePamellia...I loved your video on the creation of this birthday card for your friend. The card is stunning! Such a beautiful work of art! I absolutely adore your work. It's always got such a lovely vintage, shabby, feminine quality about it. You layer like no other to create gorgeous pieces. I love your use of flowers, too.
ReplyDeleteOh, you have made my day Pamellia, a video. What a treat. watching your videos is like a de-stressing exercise.
ReplyDeleteFabulous card, there is so much to see - what a wonderful creation and it seems so wonderfully paired with the photos of your visit to the beautiful Japanese Gardens.

Looks like Niki is getting spoiled for her birthday! Such a beautiful card with those pastels (happy you are back to your old crafty self with the colors!), that awesome blossom and the birdcages! Perfect for the 3 B's at Emerald Creek Dares! How exciting to know I have a video to watch when I get a chunk of free "me" time--always something to look forward to! Niki is going to treasure this!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, and yes, it's a magnolia; they have such beautiful blossoms, and the Southern Magnolia's we have in our yard smell delectable right now, but those leaves are a mess! The Star Magnolias usually bloom early here, and then get hit by a late frost. Your squirrel party looks so fun; you spoil THEM, too! Best coffee shot yet! Thank you for sharing your amazing talents! Hugs!
Deep springtime sigh of pleasure - a gorgeous card, and I'm sure Niki will embrace the pastels. The crackled background is simply stunning - so I've saved the video to take a look later. Beautiful work and beautiful photos of the natural world as always.

Love every single bit of work gone into this super design.
The colours are gorgeous, and very beautiful.
Superb flowers as usual.
Thank you so much for the wonderful video tutorial.
Super photos of the your day out, and a stunning photo of that wonderful sky.
Your Tree looks like a type of Magnolia, and much the same as one I have in my garden, but I expect someone has already told you that.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.

ReplyDeleteWonderful card- your dear friend will be so touched by your thoughtfulness!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your pictures- so wonderful and crisp and clear! Too bad about the cheery blossoms this year. I love the Magnolia's- they are so fragrant as well. Also, love the pics of the Asian garden and the AM sky photo- wowza!

Very nice. The colors are so lovely.
ReplyDeleteMy sweet friend, I am in a comment marathon tonight as I've been away this week... but you know what? I caught a quick peek of this when you posted (I always have to see what you post, if only on my phone screen!) and it has stuck with me all week long. Pamellia, I pray you know just how special your style is. It is so unique because it's filled with your amazing heart! This card for your friend is truly magical. The colors take my breath away and I can't possibly express how much I love your ribbon flowers. :o) The bird cages are so beautiful and I love the extra softness added from the lace and doily layers. This is so beautiful and I know Niki will treasure it always. :o)
ReplyDeleteYour nature photography is indeed a gift! You are surrounded by so much beauty and I'm thankful you share it with us. My heart was saddened to read about the blossom-less trees you were so looking forward to, but hopefully they'll be the most beautiful ever next year to make up for it. Your sweet critter friends warm my heart and I think your morning shot is my most favorite of your token shots yet. :o) Stunning! Have a peaceful and happy day, Pamellia. :o)
Hugs and blessings,
Karen

What an incredible card! And Happy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteHi Pamellia
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful card for your friend. Truly stunning!
As others have said, the tree is a Magnolia Stellata. Sadly, mine only has one flower on it this year. Its usually a mass of white star shaped flowers now and then the leaves come later.
You just gotta love those squirrels lol!
Best wishes.
