This is a very special day for me today and a special post. I am completely thrilled to tell you that I am the Guest Creative Guide at A VINTAGE JOURNEY for their current challenge HALLOWEEN - TO DIE FOR. Our lovely hostess Anne (Redanne) has chosen our challenge and I highly recommend everyone skip on over there and check out the wonderful projects that the talented design team has come up with. What an honour to work along side such amazing talent!
This is the biggest project I have ever worked on, taking me almost two weeks to finish. It is a very photo heavy post, but I will try to keep the talking to a minimum (except the tutorial). I sure hope you will hang in there and have a looksie at all the different elements of my HALLOWEEN HOUSE!
My Halloween House started as some scrap paper, which I used to build the template. Once I fine tuned the measurements, I made the final version out of pizza boxes.
I gave both sides a couple coats of beige paint to cover the printing and flaws of the boxes. Then I used a hand cut brick stencil and some home-made texture paste to give the walls some dimension. I smooshed some texture paste here and there, then added some bits of cheesecloth. Another coat of beige paint, and then Tim Holtz took over!
I rubbed Gathered Twigs distress stain over some of the areas and then spritzed it with water to make spots and drips. I did the same process with Walnut Stain and Vintage Photo. Then I took some of the brand new product Tim Holtz Walnut Stain distress spray and gave it a few squirts. Lastly, a bit of diluted Picket Fence paint washed over a few areas to mute the colours.
THE HOUSE
My house stands about 10 inches tall from the ground to the tip of the roof. The base is 2 inches tall, making the whole thing only 1 foot tall.
I hung this creepy little Blair Witch stick doll because this house is definitely cursed! It's made out of twigs from the yard, which I just carved grooves into and glued together. Eeeeek!
The clock was stamped and then covered with Rock Candy crackle paint and rubbed with Black Soot and Walnut Stain. The windows were done using Tim Holtz's cracked glass technique. Behind the acetate, I put sheets of vellum coloured with Sunset Orange and Sunshine Yellow alcohol inks so they wouldn't be too transparent and they give off a nice glow at night.
THE PORCH
For the rusted tin roof, I used Tim Holtz's effect powder technique. The drain pipe is just some bendy straws that I painted with black and silver paint. The porch railing is cut from Tim Holtz On the Fence and antiqued with a home-made crackle paint. For the porch floor I used my texture paste bark technique.
The flower and leaves in the little pot are from Spellbinders. The lattice is Spellbinders, the twigs are Nellie Snellen and the tiny leaves are Impression Obsession. The chair and table were cut out by hand and antiqued using Ranger Picket Fence crackle paint and some Tim Holtz distress stains. The 'ZOMBIES WELCOME' mat was made from a Ranger Inkssentials Canvas ATC.
If I didn't know better, I would swear this next shot was straight out of one of those horror movies where a group of teenagers is being chased by some crazy, inbred, cannibalistic, backwoods hillbillies!!
YIPES!
THE BALCONY
Does everything look a little crooked to you?? Yeah...GOOD! It's not easy making everything unsymmetrical and uneven on purpose, especially for a perfectionist with a slight case of OCD!!
I have included a ladder made of bones, just in case any zombies need a quick escape! Ha ha, fooled you! It's not really made of bones, just some waxed cord tied in knots. lol
THE FAMILY OF SPIDERS
Anybody with a weak heart or a sensitive stomach should turn back now, this is about to get super creepy!!
Up on the roof is where Mama Spider and all her babies live...but some of the little ones are starting to venture out on their own to explore their surroundings.
This little guy seems to have wandered off on his own, where could he possibly be going?
Is that a fresh grave? Oh no, I think something bad happened to Papa Spider! That's where the babies are going...to visit daddy and put fresh flowers on his grave.
That might actually be sad if it wasn't giving me the freaking heebie jeebies!!
AFTER DARK
A little set of battery operated lights, so my Haunted House can sit in the middle of the table.
NOT WHILE I EAT, OF COURSE...EEEEEWWW!
NOT WHILE I EAT, OF COURSE...EEEEEWWW!

That's it for today. Thanks for hanging in for the longest post EVER and thank you for all the amazing comments. I read and appreciate every single one! If you have any questions, please let me know.
You have rendered my speechless, I bow in awe before the master - something in me is telling me to fall to my knees and chant 'We're not worthy' - and then bang my head to Bohemian Rhapsody .... or am I getting my film genres muddled up again?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Pamellia.
Dionne xx
Holy cow, you just had me laughing my butt off Dionne! Thank you so much for that and for the wonderful compliment! Ha, still laughing! extra big hugs :)
DeleteOOOOOMMMMMGGGGG!!!! I have been checking your blog all day cause a lilltle birdie told me you had a HUGE project going on for today... This is a gigantic project and by far the best Halloween project I have ever seen!!! You are not only the best card maker but also The Halloween Queen! So much detail and halloween beauty at one place is a dream come true for a Halloween fan like myself. I am simply blown away by your creativity, attention to every little detail and such an amazing style!! B R A V O!!!!
ReplyDeleteWow Samra! You are just what the doctor ordered! An apple a day, blah blah, I will take a Samra a day, any time!! Thank you so much my dear friend, I'm tickled pink by all your praise! big dancing hugs to you! :)
DeleteWow, wow, double wow. All the blood, sweat and tears was worth it in the end because this is the most fantastic Halloween project I have ever seen. The house itself is wonderful and I love all the details you added - spiders, skulls, scary icons (too bad you couldn't come up with the word after all the brainstorming). The drainpipe is the best and I can't believe the little chairs and a welcome mat although you won't catch me going in that house - too spooky. Well done my friend.
ReplyDeleteBig Hugs!
Cec
Thank you so much for all the wows Cec! Haha, yeah, I just went with 'symbol'. It'll come to me eventually, probably at a really inconvenient time, like when I trying to sleep! lol big hugs :)
DeletePamellia, I am at a loss for words to describe the amazingness (is that even a word?!) of your haunted house. You are not just an artist, you are an architect!! I can't get over the design and loving attention to every tiny detail!! It is on my list of the coolest Halloween projects I have EVER seen. I can't stop marveling at the photos. Every time I look at them I find something new that I missed before. How did you make all those tiny creepy spiders and the door mat (welcome zombies-lol)! Love the 'bone' ladder too. I could go on and on. I don't know what kind of sorcery you use to create something so awesomely spooky, but I want to be your apprentice:-))
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Nancy
Wow Nancy, what an incredible dose of praise! Thank you so much! Actually, I built it with the powers of my mind! HA!! big hugs to you :)
DeleteI had to come back to add a request!! I would love to see you create a 'Santa's workshop' for the Christmas season...:-))
ReplyDeleteSo funny you said that...my husband said the exact same thing!
DeleteGirl, you've taken the meaning of art to the whole new level. This is beyond amazing. Yes, even with all the spiders, skulls and other spooky thingies. I can't stop looking at your creation. Everything is spectacular!!! I've never seen a Halloween project that would (almost) make my eyeballs jump out and make my jaw drop at the same time. Til now. This is spook-ta-cu-lar. I better not let my bf see it, because I'm pretty sure he'd want something similar and there's no way I could ever make anything even remotely similar to this!! this is perfect in every single way!
ReplyDeleteHugs! xx
Aahhh, thank you so much Maya! I would actually truly love to see what your version of a Haunted House would look like! I think it would be amazing! Thanks again my friend, super big hugs to you :)
DeleteOh my, is this a challenge?! O.o
DeleteHugs! xx
Maybe?
DeleteI think this challenge will have to wait for next year's Halloween. I haven't been feeling well for the last couple of days (I have a cold and I lost my voice - disaster!!!) so there's no way I could go and make this is the next 3 days. I'm up for a Christmas challenge though. ;)
DeleteBtw, I showed this to my bf. Wanna know his reaction? As I predicted - he LOVED it and he was like "you could make something like this too". Yeah, I wish! lol
A Christmas challenge sounds like fun! You get to feeling better and then we will put our heads together and come up with something. hugs and get well wishes! :)
DeleteAwesome! Sounds like a plan. :D And I'll be forced to step out of my comfort zone (at least a little), which is great too.
DeleteThanks for the get well wishes. :)
Big hugs to you as well! xx
:)
DeleteYou must have had so much FUN making this house! So many FAB details! My personal FAVs are the spiders! YIKES! Just Spooktacular!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Sue, you gotta love those creepy baby spiders!! big hugs :)
DeletePamellia I am with Nancy here. After seeing this on AVJ I just had to come over and get even more detail here. This truly is an unbelievable project, wow, I hope you have a large enough box to keep it in, so it can come out year after year. This deserves to become an heirloom piece. I just cannot get over the detail and skill involved in putting something like this together. And on top of it all, it looks as if you had loads of fun with it too. I have seen a lot of amazing Halloween projects this year, but this one tops the lot for sure!
ReplyDeleteWow Astrid, what an amazing compliment, thank you so much!! Actually, I guess I will probably have to build a box to store it in...PROJECT! haha! hugs :)
DeleteWow, what a fantastic piece, this will be a family heirloom - or should it be scareloom? Great! Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteScareloom...hilarious Valerie! Thank you so much! hugs :)
DeleteOh my goodness! Girl, you are amazing! I know you said this was gonna be big but this is jaw droppingly fabulous! This is THE best Halloween project I have seen so far and I am not saying that because you're my friend!! Pamellia, you rock!! Your guest designer spot at AVJ is totally deserved and they should be proud to she invited you! LOVE this and it shod come out of a box every year at Halloween because this is so spooky and gorgeous at the same time! The details are amazing. Or I must stop typing and have another look!! Big his and well done for getting it done! Take it easy now! Hugs, Ingrid xx
ReplyDeleteAahhh, thank you so much my crafty friend, you made my day!! I hope you are feeling better and healing well! Sending many many hugs to you! :)
DeleteWow, Wow, Wow. This is truly the best haunted house project that I have ever seen and the fact that you made everything by hand yourself just leaves me speechless... Your are a Genius. I just love everything about this phenomenal piece of artwork, and would have to keep it on display all year round. I can't wait to see what your come up with next. Sally D.x.
ReplyDeleteSo sweet, Sally! Thank you for all of the 'wow's! Big hugs comin' at ya! :)

ReplyDeleteAwesome works, thank you so much Elena! hugs :)
DeleteOMG, Pamellia, this looks like part of a film set! The amount of minute detail is astounding!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely 'spooktacular' weekend! xx
Thank you so much Jane! Happy weekend to you too! hugs :)
DeletePamellia,
ReplyDeleteOh, dear Pamellia,
Oh, where do I begin???
(Word defiance here!)
I want to peek in all the windows, because knowing you, I am sure there is some really creep-defying inside! You, my girl, are the queen of creepiness..and I say that with utmost admiration! I am sure you have not slept for a fortnight! And with that in your home, you are not going to get any sleep now, either! Where shall I begin with what I absolutely love about this???? The drainpipe, no..the candle stick and the tiniest candle I have ever seen, no..it't the swags of creepiness sliding off the porch, not, I think it's the poison bottle (the nastiest little bottle I have ever seen), the Daddy (long legs, perhaps?) spider headstone OR COULD IT BE THE FACT THAT YOU BUILT THIS HOUSE WITH YOUR BARE HANDS FROM THE FOUNDATION UP????? You ROCK, Pamellia!
I am going to e-mail you because from a fellow lover of this kind of thing, I have lot's of questions for any scraps you will afford me on details...like what in the world is that wispy fiber-y type stuff you seem to use in most of your projects....I have been trying to figure it out on my own, but I give up! I enjoy a good game of Clue every once in awhile, and I am always trying to figure things out...are your marble endposts those little foam things you get in Tim's embossing folder packages? They sure look like it! Anyway, not to take away from your lovely piece...
I could go on and on, and I WOULD, but I have taken my allotted 30 minutes of morning drool time all in one place. One more thing...I am SO happy I have just started getting your posts directly to my e-mail, otherwise I may not have seen this for days!
Hugs are not enough!
Sara Emily
WOW Sara! There is absolutely no way that my big fat head is going to fit through the door after reading your comment! Honestly, you made my day, my week, my year!! I think I will just feed off of this generous praise for a long time coming!!

And to think that your artistry and technique will only continue to grow is baffling! The precision throughout is inspiring and the fact that your very own hands did every minute detail makes it all the more brilliant.

I pray with all of my sparkly heart that you truly see the brilliance and beauty in your heartfelt creations. Your talent is only surpassed by your heart! :o) (And I think this project would take me at least a month to make!!!)

ReplyDeleteThank you so much Vickie!:)
DeleteHello Pamillia,
ReplyDeletethis house and all the great details are really great and I am fascinated from every perspective- I would be interested in, how long you need to constructed and built it. Do you make sketches from all and do you have such dimensions all before planed? It is a wonderful and amazing work!
Senna :)
Thank you so much Senna! My house stands about 10 inches tall from the ground to the tip of the roof. The base is 2 inches tall, making the whole thing only 1 foot tall. I drew it out freehand on some scrap paper. I did the main body first, then just made adjustments as I went along.
DeleteOh my goodness, my jaw dropped when I saw this! Thank you so much for sharing so many close-up photos - I truly enjoyed admiring all the loving detail you put in. The final photo of the house lit up is incredible. I just had to show this to my family too and they were so amazed!
ReplyDeleteRebecca.
Wow, what a wonderful and amazing compliment Rebecca! Thank you so much for making me smile! big hugs :)
DeletePamellia, I do not have the words to compliment this project enough. I just don't. It is so creepy and fabulous and detailed - and FREAKING AMAZING! The detail photos, the stick doll (AUGH!) made by hand...my god, Pamellia! AMAZING.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Jessi! hugs :)
DeleteI have been meaning to get over here since I saw this at a Vintage Journey (congrats on the guest DT there!). This is honestly the most AMAZING haunted house I have ever seen. Your details are incredible! Love the brick and distressed shingles. The porch with the rocker is awesome. The skeleton hand rope ladder and spider family (complete with spider hanging from thread) are genius. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this!!!!!!!!!! -- Mary Elizabeth
ReplyDeleteAahhh, thank you so much Mary Elizabeth! I truly appreciate that! big hugs :)

DeleteAn amazing Halloween project and my favourite this year! So many amazing details from the spider family, the skulls to the creeping hand on the roof - and everything else in between. I particularly admire how you worked out your template in paper and then made the final house in pizza boxes! The finish you achieved on the house is perfection!

You are so sweet! Thank you for your visit Jacquie, and the kind comment! hugs :)
DeleteThis gave me such a thrill this morning. You know, when you see something just magical. I love all of it, but especially how you made everything all wonky and crooked. Wish this could be displayed someplace so we could walk around and marvel. Can you imagine children looking at it? Thank you so much! P.S. Mrs Duck referred us over here.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful compliment Marci! Thank you so much for taking the time to visit me today! hugs :)
DeleteAWESOME!!!!! You put so much detail into this project; amazing. My 2nd hobby is Dollhouse Miniatures and Roomboxes. Would you mind if I shared this with a couple of my dollhouse groups; they'd love it! Especially since it's so timely - Halloween. The more I study it (I enlarged it to enjoy it more) I see new things all the time.
ReplyDeleteWow Linda, I am completely honoured! Yes, of course you can share it. If you could come back and leave me a link, I would love to check it out!
DeleteThanks for your wonderful comment, I really appreciate your visiting me today! big hugs :)
Hi Pamellia. WOW! I am truly amazed at this fantastic piece of art. I really don't have the words to do it justice. I am just so very grateful for Mrs Duck for referring us otherwise I, and the rest of my family, would have missed such a masterpiece. You must be so so proud and it has to become a family heirloom,or scareloom as Valerie said : ) Please, please, please do a Christmas House if you can. I am off to have a look at your other goodies but just had to comment first. Thank you so much for sharing : ) Take care.
ReplyDeleteAahhh, thank you so much Mrs B! What a sweet and kind comment! I am actually seriously considering doing a Christmas house...maybe Santa's Workshop, have to see how busy life gets. Thanks again for stopping in, hope to see you again soon. Big hugs :)
DeleteForgot to say that if you don't win every challenge that you have entered then there is no justice in this world! x
ReplyDeleteHow sweet are you!! Thank you so much Sue! hugs :)
DeleteHi Pamellia,
ReplyDeletepopped over from Mrs Ducks blog as she suggested we have look at your very superb creation.
I am so glad I did as this is an amazing and superb creation.
I would have thought all that super work would have taken you a lot longer.
Your attention to details is amazing, and very clever.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.
Oh boy Jenny, you are giving me a big head! lol Thank you so much for taking the time to pop in here today an leave a comment! I really appreciate the kind words! big hugs :)
DeleteAbsolutely breathtaking! I would keep this house out all year long, just so I could keep looking at it (and in my house it would blend right in!!) I don't suppose you'd be willing to share your pattern with those of us who are unable to craft something like this from scratch ?? Regardless, this is an amazing house and everything looks so perfectly spooky :)
ReplyDeleteAahhh, thank you so much Christi, what a wonderful compliment! Unfortunately, I don't have a pattern for this one. I drew it out by hand and made a million adjustments along the way, so I have no idea about the exact dimensions of everything. Sorry. big hugs :)
DeleteHi
ReplyDeleteI too popped over from Mrs Ducks blog. What an awesome piece of work! Really captures the essence of Halloween! Best wishes, Anne O
Thank you so much Anne! It was so sweet of you to drop by! Have a lovely Sunday! hugs :)
DeleteThis is just plain freakin' ghoulish! Which is why I love it! I can't even imagine how many hours this project took, but it leaves my speechless! There are so many little details that I could stare at it for hours & still find something new to see! 😊
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful compliment! Thank you! It took me about two and a half weeks to put it together, hours, I'm not sure. hugs :)
DeleteOh, my God, Pamellia... I can't believe what I see... This is the most beautiful, amazing, gorgeous, superb... Well, no, there is no word in the dictionary that could describe this house and say exactly how beautiful it is and how creative are your mind and your hands! Really, I am speechless! I also love making all by myself and building also the structure of my 3D projects, but this is something I could have never imagined! And it is full of details, so perfect, so real, so scaring... I would stay the whole night here at my PC looking at this house and trying to discover more and more of its secret corners, its hidden spiders, its disgusting webs, its frightening skulls... Oh, Pamellia, all your crafts are superb, so sweet and romantic, some of the best in the blogland, but you have showed us you are a complete artist and there are always new challenges for real artists! You have surely won the Oscar of creativity!
ReplyDeleteBig hugs,
Mariangela ^___^
Wow, what an amazing compliment Mariangela! Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and to write me such a glowing review! I have a big fat smile and a big fat head right now! HA! big hugs :)
DeleteYou have rendered my speechless, I bow in awe before the master - something in me is telling me to fall to my knees and chant 'We're not worthy' - and then bang my head to Bohemian Rhapsody .... or am I getting my film genres muddled up again?
ReplyDeleteIsn'tthat what Dee said? I SOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo agree, and couldn't have said it better myself!!
