I am super excited to be here as the Top Talent Spotlight over at Our Creative Corner! A special honour that I won in October for my Haunted House entry in the Go Rustic Challenge. I was so happy when I won and completely thrilled when Laura asked me to be in the spotlight, AND as you may know, I am now a member of the Design Team as well...it's like Christmas all over again! Thanks again Laura, it's an honour!
In keeping my very first challenge at Our Creative Corner, I have made a project for this month's theme CHRISTMAS LEFTOVERS. I have used the empty box from some Christmas Chocolates and transformed it into a receipt box for 2015, where I will stash all my craft receipts for the year. I do hope you enjoy, I have used lots of new products and techniques!
HOW DID I DO THAT??
I used Mod Podge to adhere cheesecloth to the top of the box and some lace around the sides. I painted it with White DecoArt Acrylic paint and then used some homemade texture paste and a Memory Box stencil to add a design.
I cut four pieces from the Sizzix/Tim Holtz Hardware Findings die and two pieces of the Spellbinders Labels die out of a nice thick cardboard. I thought it was pretty funny when I turned the pieces over and saw that it read...PLEASE RECYCLE!
Thought I would try a few NEW techniques for this project, so after I glued the layers together, I coated them with thick paste and then treated it like stucco to make a really rough texture. I glued them onto the box.
I glued on all my other bits and baubles and then tried another NEW technique. I globbed on some Mod Podge and then covered the areas with my NEW tarnished brass distress glitter. The frame, the key, the lock on the front and the numbers were all handmade using crafter's clay and various molds.
I painted everything with another coat of DecoArt White Acrylic paint, and then whipped out my two NEW fabulous colours of Lindy's Stamp Gang Moonshadow Mists - Tawny Turquoise and Buccaneer Bay Blue. I also used some Gathered Twigs and Weathered Wood. I just sprayed and sprayed until I liked the look.
Lastly, I highlighted all of the raised areas with gorgeous Pale Pearl Blue and Pearl Champagne paints to give it a dazzling glimmer! This is one project you really need to see in person, it's almost iridescent with all the shimmering colours!
All of these areas that just look like MUD (so despressing) are actually a gorgeous shimmery goldish aqua that I could not seem to get the camera to capture! I hope you get the idea though.

ReplyDeleteAlso, we'd fill a box that size in about a week, lol. x
Thanks so much Sammy! I'm beginning to rethink the receipt idea...perhaps some chocolates for emergencies instead?! big hugs and smiles :)
DeleteWOW! wow! wow! Stunning Pamellia, a receipt box is a great idea, mine are usually shoved in a cupboard!!! I may have to try this myself as I still have a couple of boxes of chocolates lol! That is if you don't mind me copying your idea lol!? Watch this space as they say...lol!!! I love the Aqua colour so beautiful.

DeleteOMG!!! My friend, I am so glad that there is absolutely no limit to your creativity!!! Your projects always blow my mind! I am writing you this comment after I was able to get my jaw off the ground and gather my thoughts since they were blown away!!! I truly don't know where to begin with my praise??? OK, I'll just start from the chocolates:good choice :) love those with cherries inside :) I looooove the colors you used for this project, so very beautiful! All the textures are amazing and the die cuts are just perfect for the style of the project. I love that little frame and the key! Just fabulous my friend!!! Thank you for the dose of heavenly beauty! Have a great day! Hugs :)

ReplyDelete{The Journey is the Start – my personal blog}
Thanks so much Annie! big hugs and smiles :)
DeleteAnother super amazing project!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your comments ... The allergy could literally be anything ... could be the soap powder who knows? I'm always seeing "New & Improved" makes you think what they added ... I'm wary of even using my paints and sprays etc., I'm not one who will wear gloves so it could even be the glues?
Have a great day my friend
Thanks so much Ros! So true about the 'new and improved'...all that means is we changed it and it may no longer be safe for you to use!! I wear gloves, goggles and a mask when using the sprays for exactly this reason! I so hope you can find out what the culprit is, and SOON!! hugs :)
Deletehow very gorgeous - love all the layers - thanks for joining us at Mixed Media Mojo
ReplyDeleteBarb Housner (DT)
Thanks so much Barb! hugs :)
DeleteSince I saw this wonderful "not a chocolate box anymore" project in real life, I can confirm that it does not look like mud and is chock full of texture, glittery gold and a blue that is actually a beautiful aqua shade and not a sky blue as the camera wanted to show it. Another fantastic creation my friend.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
Cec
Aahhh, thanks so much Cec for telling the world how stupid my camera is and for your kind words about my chocolate box!! It's good to have back up!! big hugs my friend :)

DeleteI love how you just keep on layering Pamellia - and it comes out SO gorgeous I really need to find time to just play with layering and see if I can get this wonderful effect! What a great box you created out of a simple candy box!! Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteAahhh, thanks so much Julia!! You made me smile! big hugs :)
DeleteJaw dropping Pamellia, absolutely astounding! I LOVE it,the textures are just amazing. The only problem is it would probably be too small for all my craft receipts ha ha
ReplyDeleteExtra big hugs

Look forward to seeing the altered washing machine size box to keep your Tim Holtz receipts in hahaha!
Take care.

ReplyDeleteYou have me thinking about boxes - I saw a perfect one in the supermarket this morning and immediately thought of you and what you would do with it LOL. I know I should get stuff together to do what you do - however, I'm not that kind of person, but sometimes, just sometimes after seeing your makes I wish I was.
What a sweet thing to say Faith!! I do the same thing when I'm shopping now, "hmmmmm, I could use that!", doesn't matter what food is actually inside it! HAHA! Crafters are funny people aren't we! hugs :)
