In "Love" with Rock Candy Distress Glitter

Hello Everyone!

Today I thought I would share another Valentine's card with you, tons of mixed media , some new techniques, and of course, a whole whack of pictures!

I've really being itching to play along over at Linda Ledbetter's Compendium of Curiosities challenge, so I was excited to finally have some time to do so. Challenge #21 is from Page 55 of Volume 3, if you would like to play along as well. One lucky winner will receive a gift certificate from The Inspiration Emporium. Here is my make using Tim's technique.

The top heart and middle heart were cut out of the cardboard box that my Funkie Junkie order came in. I used a Go Kreate heart die set. The top heart was covered with DecoArt Crackle Texture Paste and gold micro-beads. The middle one was stamped with a Kaisercraft rose stamp using Ranger Archival Coffee ink.

For the very bottom layer I used a new technique, which I am going to call Marbled Texture Paste. I took some homemade texture paste in beige (DecoArt Tan Acrylic) and in white. Put a bit of each on my palette knife and then applied it through the Tim Holtz Latticework stencil. I got a wonderful marbleized texture this way. I need a bit more practice at it, but I will definitely be using this technique again!

As per Tim's technique on page 55, I have glittered up the top panel of my large Spellbinders oval die using Antique Linen distress ink and the damask stamp from Tim's Distress Damask set. I used the same technique for the word "Love". It's stamped with Brushed Corduroy and then fussy cut out.

I decided to upgrade my hand made shabby roses. I have used the same technique, only I have added a couple of extra layers of the Joy Craft Flower die cuts to make the rose more full and lush. The leaves are from La La Lands.

The small heart is made out of wood. I painted it with Tarnished Brass distress paint and a few dabs of Picket Fence to dull it down. I then covered it with Rock Candy distress glitter. The corner piece was made from crafter's clay and coated with crackle paint and then a little Gathered Twigs for accenting the cracks.

The tag was cut out by hand, painted with various distress paints, stamped some damask designs and then I used some home made texture paste and the Tim Holtz Hearts stencil to create the pattern. While the paste was still wet, I covered it with Rock Candy distress glitter.

I really wanted to add a button for The Mixed Media Card Challenge, but I didn't have anything on hand that I liked, so I decided to make my own. I took a plain wooden button and turned it upside down. I painted it white and then used a very small stamp with Archival ink to stamp on the rose. I coloured the rose with Copic markers and then coated the button with Crackle Accents. A little Gathered Twigs distress stain in the cracks and voilĂ , home-made vintage button!!!

Hopefully you can see all of the wonderful splashes of gold micro-beads here and there on all of the layers. Adds a little extra elegance, I think. Some gold thread and a few beads just to finish up.

I am entering the following wonderful challenges:

That's it for today. Thank you for stopping in and for all the amazing comments. I read and appreciate every single one! If you have any questions, please let me know.

  38. Oh, My Heavenly stars, Pamellia! How in the world do you do it? Every card or project you create is better than the last! (I know that' s a lot of pressure, sorry!) But truly, this is the most remarkable, stunningly created work of shimmery, sparkly art. I love your marbled texture paste, a perfect background for all these other neutral elements. I love that you recycled your shipping box, and your Rock Candy glitter technique on "Love" is just A M A Z I N G !!! Far better than what we see on page 55, and you were able to do a great job on catching on camera! I cannot believe you fussy cut that! What a steady hand and great eyes you have! Love the gold thread with the beads--such a Pamellia touch! Now, let's talk about that button and those fantabulous roses! These are the most realistic faux flowers I've ever seen. Could you make me about 100 of them, and I will glue them on my bushes next season! Wow! Your creativity knows no bounds! Thank you for making my day with this wonderful card! I'll be trying out a few of these techniques and report back in about a month after I've tried each one! Great big giant hugs, my amazing talented friend!
