Welcome to another challenge starting over at Try it on Tuesday. This time around our theme is 60'S RETRO. Fashion, music, colours, culture...etc.
I decided to go with a Thank You card to keep on hand for just the perfect occasion. I combined a little retro fashion, retro colours and retro style to create my fashionable card. I would just like to say that after spending a little time on Google looking for inspiration, that I am entirely glad I did not have to live amongst those wretched colours and patterns! Have you ever seen a bathing suit from the 60's? Yipes!
The tag was covered with burlap, a layer of white gesso and then I used a Prima stencil to lay down the polka dots. While the texture paste was still wet, I brushed on some DecoArt Americana paints Antique Gold, Burnt Sienna and Milk Chocolate from lightest to darkest in a radial pattern.
The sentiment was stamped with an doodle stamp set, I have no idea what it's called. The arrow was made with a Time Holtz arrow stencil using black texture paste and I fussy cut it out. The bubble die cut is from Memory Box the rays in the background were made using Tim Holtz stencil Rays and brushing on a little DecoArt paints Citron Green and Pistachio.
The butterfly is from Kaisercraft, stamped with Ranger Archival ink Jet Black and coloured with Vintage Photo and Shabby Shutters distress markers. The flowers were made with Joy Crafts Flower 4 die and coloured with Shabby Shutters and Crushed Olive. The ladies are from Tim Holtz's new stamp set. I paper pieced on their dresses from a couple of emboss resist pieces using Shabby Shutters to colour them.
OK, so the lace was really just for me...I needed to shabby it up a bit or I would have went crazy!!!
I am entering my fashionable 60's ladies into the following wonderful challenges:
Just a quick reminder to have a hop on over to ANYTHING BUT CUTE and meet our next design team member! First challenge starts May 5th.
That's it for today. Thank you for stopping in and for all the amazing comments. I read and appreciate every single one! If you have any questions, please let me know.
This is very special, Pamellia. Love all the wonderful things you've created so beautifully on it.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy day, my friend,
hugs xx
What an amazing mix of textures and details, Pamellia! I love those gentle citrus colours too! xxx
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful Pamellia, I love your shabby take on the sixties! Those girls look so good in those colours! As for the other colours you mention you had to be there! I spent part of the sixties dressed in black or white as did many others! Hugs, Chrisx
ReplyDeleteHow fabulous! I love that you chose fashion and more inspiration for those runway models too! And loving the MB bubble die - think I need to add that to my list too :) Hugs, Georgie xx
ReplyDeleteSadly or otherwise Pamellia, I do indeed remember those patterns and colours right down to the mini skirts which as a youngster thought were wonderful even if my parents thought I was a tad to young to wear, but didn't stop me trying. Your card depicts the era perfectly as do the colours.

ReplyDeleteI hardly know anything about retro fashion but one thing I know is your card is very beautiful ! Wonderful combination of textures n colors !
ReplyDeleteSome eras should never come back, and the sixties is one of them! lol However, your card depicts the colors and styles beautifully. Well done!

Woah this is FABULOUS Pamellia!! You sure did a lot of "home work" on this one...I was born in 1960 so I just had to wear the "kid" fashions but I sure remember the hair...I'm permanently scarred (mentally not physically) by the "singeing" of the bangs... lol!! This is absolutely stunning my crafty friend...being repetitive but you are a MASTER CRAFTER!!! Have a most wonderful day Pamellia...can't wait to see what you have to inspire us with next!!!
ReplyDeleteTake care,
Beth

Your retro card is tres magnifique with all the stencils, paste, burlap, and those super duper groovy bubbles....LOVE those! Your card is elegant 1960s with lots of great texture and fun stamping and stenciling with shapes that were in abundance during that time. The colour palette is wonderful and I keep thinking I might be watching a Paris runway show.

I was born in the 60's Pamellia and I remember my Mum had a suede 2 piece ensemble (skirt and waistcoat) in a camel colour which was really quite nice, but for the fact she wore it with a psychedelic lime green and purple chiffon blouse with enormous collar and puffed sleeves!! Anyway onto your fabulous card which is nowhere near as gawdy as Mums fashion faux pas!! Love the texture and the citrus colours certainly hit the spot with the lava lamp splodges!! xx
ReplyDeleteI was a baby in the 60's and remember wearing a knitted bathing suit, yes knitted by my mother, how embarrassing lol! Love your choice of retro fashion Pamellia, your card is sensational :-) xxx
ReplyDeleteFabulous design, funny it does not feel retro to me, just visiting my youth when these 50's styles were revised in the 70's! I love those circles and your choice of colours conjures times long past.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your work with all of us at Crafty Boots Challenges.

Simply Paper Card Design
Oh, the '60s were a cool time - I was born in the mid-'60s so I do remember some of the styles! I always enjoy watching old TV shows from the '60s and '70s just to have a look at the fashion! What a stylish card you made - I love looking at all the details and wonderful texture.
ReplyDeleteVery 60s Retro, love all the detail. Super card!

ReplyDeleteMar x
I love your lace made into the bow and all your gorgeous details. Thankyou for fluttering by. Hugs Mrs A.
ReplyDeleteYou've done it again, brilliant card and yes I have seen a bathing suit from the 60's in fact I was only looking at some old photographs today at my mum's. I was between 6 and 16 during the 60s so you can imagine what the photos were like! Though I might say it was a time of great changes for women in particular though some would say of the "Swinging Sixties" that there was a drop in moral standards! Angela x
ReplyDeleteLove the replication of dots and spots on that burlap background Pamellia! Jenny x
ReplyDeleteFashion went through many stages back then, love the style of your fantastic tag.
ReplyDeleteYvonne xx
Wow, what a gorgeous background for your very beautiful retro images - absolutely stunning! Hugs, Anne xx
ReplyDeleteBrilliant card and tag love the texture and could I say muted colours lol I also had a lot of black and white clothes a great chequerboard skirt and polka dot blouse, but I also owned a red flowered trouser suit which I wore with duck egg blue suede heeled shoes and a pink floppy hat lol I had bells sewn down the side of my jeans which we used to wear in the bath so they shrank to fit and i had a brilliant dark blue jacket covered in strips of different sparkly coloured threads great times-and you should have seen some of the room decors clashing patterned paper, curtails and carpets -I look back at the pics and think omg we thought it looked great
ReplyDeleteCarol x

ReplyDeleteThis is awesome Pamellia. xx
ReplyDeleteHeheheh - I am laughing so! Ok Pamellia - here's one for your record book. I wore an orange bathing suit - much the color of your background orange - in a national beauty pageant in 1969! YES - I'm serious!!! And guess what - I won!!! Heheheheheh!!! So there is proof that some 60's bathing suits were yipes in a good way!!!!!!!!!!! Now are you laughing????!!!! Needless to say - I am in love with your card. Your research paid off!!! It's WONDERFUL. j.

Really up to date textures, love the design...
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing with us at CraftyCatz this week.x
Another WOW card and so different from your other cards, none the less VERY beautiful, love the colours the texture, the images, the lace, the butterfly, OK EVERYTHING.
ReplyDeleteAs for the 60's bathing costume, it was very "in" to have stretch towelling for material then. I had a beautiful blue costume, which looked OK BEFORE I went into the sea, then it stretched so much I had to hoist it up over my boobs, however the water didn't release, so I was left with a huge water filled sagging bubble around my lower half and me hanging on to the top because the weight stretched it down. Ah! those were the days LOL.
Hi Pamellia
ReplyDeleteThankfully, I was only around for a couple of years in the 60's so don't remember anything particularly hideous (not mentally scarred from any bad swimsuits lol!)
Love your retro looking ladies and the gorgeous flowers. Lord help you if you have to do a project with a 70's wallpaper theme. . . . . . .now that I do remember lol!
Best wishes.
Ang x

ReplyDeleteMy dear friend, this theme would have terrified me yet you have used it brilliantly! Only you could showcase this theme while still emitting that gorgeous Pamellia feel we all know and love! The backgrounds are fantastic (LOVE all those circles) and the flowers are so pretty. The butterfly is so striking and works wonderfully with the 60's ladies. Wonderfully done as always, lovely friend! Have a beautiful day. :o)
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,

A Mermaid's Crafts
Hi Pamellia,
ReplyDeleteanother stunning creation here.
Love all your fab ideas, and the wonderful work on this.
Superb flowers, and wonderful paper piercing on the clothes.
Fab colour choice too.
Now I was a young lady in the 60s, and can't honestly remember the bathing suits, but I did have a lovely bronze one myself, and I believe it was from M&S.
It had rope type straps, and big split in the front that joined together at the center of the bust leaving a large keyhole type of thing in the midriff, it was also backless at the top.
So now I am going to have to investigate what you have seen.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.
A beautiful card Pamellia, such pretty colours and fabulous design - the paper pieced dresses look brilliant and I love the decorated burlap - you have certainly captured the feel of the 60's .

You totally had me checking google for the '60 fashion. lol You'll probably think I'm completely nuts (if you don't already think so lol), but I actually like SOME of the stuff. Mind you, I said SOME. ;) I like those dotty things (and that's pretty much everything I like if I may add) and I even found a polka dot bathing suit that I thought was nice (now you probably think I completely lost my mind lol).
ReplyDeleteYou made a fab retro creation. I think you captured the '60 vibe perfectly. :)
Big hugs to you!! xx
Fabby creation! Thanks for joining us over at AUD sentiments.
