It's time to start another challenge over at Try it on Tuesday. This time around our theme is WATCHES AND CLOCKS so we want to see some sort of time device in some form or another on your project.
Today I would like to introduce you to what I am going to call A BIG SHABBY MESS!! Have you ever wanted to go back in time just two minutes so you could stop yourself from making a decision that ruins the project you're working on...that was me and this card. I will explain in a bit, but first here is my creation.
Today I would like to introduce you to what I am going to call A BIG SHABBY MESS!! Have you ever wanted to go back in time just two minutes so you could stop yourself from making a decision that ruins the project you're working on...that was me and this card. I will explain in a bit, but first here is my creation.
And now for my disaster story. This card was actually quite pretty about two minutes before it wasn't!! I had the card fully assembled except the flowers...everything was left uncoloured, just some brown stamping and that's it. I wanted to add just a dash of yellow, so I pulled out my Lindy's Magicals powder and sprinkled a bit on the card. But when I spritzed it with water, the Magicals exploded into a rainbow of brilliant colours all over everything, infecting every tag and banner!! If there was time to start over, I really might have done so, but there wasn't so I had to work with what I had.
The moral of the story is...this stuff is wickedly pigmented, USE ONLY A TINY TINY TINY BIT!! I'm talking mosquito dropping size!! Anyway, so here it is, my big shabby mess in all it's glory! haha!!
As usual my flowers were cut with Joy Crafts Flower die set. I coloured with distress ink Spun Sugar mixed with Hero Arts Soft Blossom and the other with distress ink Scattered Straw. The leaves are from the Spellbinders Foliage set and coloured with Bundled Sage.
For the background I use DecoArt Americana acrylic paints Antique White, Baby Pink and Petal Pink along with the Weathered Wood Medium to create a crackle background. The stencil pattern is from Crafter's Workshop and the texture paste is home made.
The flowers and the clock in the center are digital images I printed on my computer and added some oil pastels for extra colour. So after the whole Magicals debacle, I tried to mute the colours with some white paint, but it just made it hard to see the flowers against the rainbow mish mash in the background. Another colossal mistake that I couldn't take back.
The clock is Weathered Clock from Sizzix, the Fishtail banners are from My Favourite Things, the tags are from Tim Holtz/Sizzix Tag Collection die set. The script stamp and the dots stamp are both from Kaisercraft. I used Ranger Archival ink Coffee to stamp them.
I want to send out a special thank you to Karasiowa, I just love her work and always find inspiration on her blog. This card was modelled after one of her beautiful pieces which you can find HERE. I just love the layout and thought it would be perfect for this challenge. Thanks Ania!!

ReplyDeleteWell, Pamellia, in addition to training your dragonfly, you have got me trained to pop in on Tuesday mornings, so I can see what marvelous creation you have made for us! It only took about a year- I'm not a quick study!
ReplyDeleteAs for your pretty little mess, know one would ever have known there was a blooper behind all these beautiful layers! How I wish I could make "mistakes" as beautiful as these! There's so much to love here, but I just gotta go with that gor- gee-us!!!! textured background--I love how your digital flower images blend in! And your flowers, as usual, just take my breath away! Oh, and that one tiny detail I honed in on is how you tied your tags together- SA-weet! Just another amazing creation in the day of Pamellia! You rocked it again! Big hugs!

ReplyDeleteIf you didn't tell us about your "mistake" I would have thought that card was supposed to have rainbow of colors! It really does not look like a mistake my dear! I have a thing for clocks, so I sure will join this challenge! I'll try to whip up something this weekend...Thank you for the inspiration my dear! Have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteI am with Samra and would not have known you thought you had made a mistake if you hadn't told us. I would love it if my projects ended up looking as good as your bloopers so stop whining and keep your mistakes to yourself - lol. I love that you are using some digital images and then kicking them up major notches with your mixed media techniques and your fabulous handmade embellishments. Loving the texture in the background, the tags and chevrons and the great bits of black that makes all those magical colours pop.
ReplyDeleteHugs!

Well it might not have turned out as you imagined it in your head but I think it is fabulous and if you hadn't told us of your 'disasters' then I'm sure that we wouldn't have been any the wiser. It all looks as if it was meant to be that way to me and I love the blending of the colours.
ReplyDeleteLorraine

ReplyDeleteSo beautiful Pamellia..wish my disasters would come out looking this gorgeous..
ReplyDeleteluv CHRISSYxx
This is a wonderfully pretty card Pamellia. There is no such thing as a mistake in crafting - only a different outcome to that which was expected. That's my excuse anyway. I love the muted colours on this beauty and the way the design seems to flow from the flowers in the bottom left to the end of the cord in the top right.
ReplyDeleteI recently made a card inspired by you - no where near your league though - and it has clocks on it so I shall be entering it in the challenge xx
This may not have finished up how you wanted it to, but it looks pretty darn good to me Pamellia!! Love all your layers - it may not be my 'style' but I can surely admire it in your work!
ReplyDeleteBlessings
Maxine
