Frilly and Funkie - It's Summer!

Hello Everyone!

It's time for another wonderful challenge over at Frilly and Funkie! This time Nancy is our lovely hostess and she has chosen the theme IT'S SUMMER. She would like you to create a shabby chic or vintage style project showcasing what you enjoy most about this wonderful season, maybe you enjoy traveling, growing a garden, or just laying on the beach. One lucky winner will receive a $25 gift certificate to Linda's shop The Funkie Junkie Boutique!

What I love most about summer is how vibrant the world is! After 6 or 7 months of drab and dreary greys and whites, the world just seems to come alive with blue skies. aqua waters, green trees, beautiful flowers and all the wonderful birds and butterflies. So that was the inspiration for my summer creation.

The background was done with the new Ken Oliver Colour Bursts that Linda sells in the shop. I used Pthalo Green, Ultramarine Blue and Lemon Yellow. I outlined the panel with White Opal Liquid Pearls which I coated with white embossing powder to brighten the drops to a crisp white. The stencil is from Wendy Vecchi, I also covered it with white embossing powder.

The flowers were cut using Tattered Florals and coloured with Squeezed Lemonade and Mustard Seed distress inks. The tags are made out of corrugated cardboard and cut with The Tag Collection die set. The heart is from Linda's shop. I painted it with Mustard Seed distress paint and dabbed a little Picket Fence on the top to lighten it. The decorative stamp in the corner is from the Graphic 45 Time to Flourish collection.

The seam binding was coloured with distress inks Squeezed Lemonade, Mowed Lawn and Peacock Feathers. The little rose is a Heirloom Rose from Tim Holtz.

The butterflies are from the French Flight Tim Holtz set and coloured with distress spray inks using a tiny paintbrush. The sentiment is from the Chit Chat sticker book. I hope you can see the gorgeous shimmer on the tags. I painted them with Gesso and then a light coating of a pearl paint. So pretty!

Crafty Cardmakers #141 and Blog Candy Winner

Hello Everyone!

Well, it's time for another challenge over at Crafty Cardmakers and More! This time around our lovely hostess Vania has chosen the theme FOR A MAN OR BOY, so she would like to see masculine projects for the dude in your life.

Stay tuned for the announcement of my blog candy winner, but first here is my masculine make. I just realized that for my last three posts I have subjected you to the exact same three colours - pink, green and yellow (oops!), so this should be a nice change!! 

Underneath the clock die is a fishtail banner that I cut from a test page for a new Andy Skinner technique he calls Mega Crackle. A big thank you goes out to TRACY EVANS of My Craft Addicts who introduced me to the technique, she is always inspiring me with her amazing projects, do give her a visit.

As usual, I put my own spin on the technique by layering DecoArt Weathered Wood Medium and DecoArt Crackle Glaze on top of a layer of Americana Ebony Black paint. Then I rubbed a little Crafter's Acrylic Tan into the cracks to get this amazing super cracked look you see here below on the Tim Holtz tag.

The stamps I used in the background are from these sets: Tim Holtz French Memories, Tim Holtz Bird Feather, Tim Holtz Journey, and Kaisercraft Dots. The washi tape is handmade by stamping and inking onto medical gauze. I used a Prima Triangle Stamp with Ranger Archival ink Jet Black and some distress ink Gathered Twigs to colour it.

The clock die is Tim Holtz, I used my Distressed Metal technique to add a nice texture on the clock hands. The center clock is a digital print out. The sentiment is from the Small Talk sticker book. The tags are cut from Tim Holtz and the big one is stamped with a Graphic 45 Harlequin stamp using Archival ink Coffee. The hot air balloon is from a Hampton Arts stamp set...name unknown.

Sending My Love - JFF Tag

Hello Everyone!

Just a quick reminder that the Winners from Anything But Cute's - Vintage Garden challenge were announced this morning. I was so impressed with all the amazing entries we got last month, I really wish we could have chosen everyone as a winner! I want to thank everyone again for all your kind words and your support, we had a great launch and look forward to many more fabulous challenges with you!!

So now on to my little summery tag here. Quite honestly, I was just looking for an excuse to play with my new Ecoline inks. Today it's PINK, YAY!! Yesterday my very wonderful and talented friend Cec came and spent the day with me! She had a great deal of influence over the outcome of this tag, so a big thank you to her for some of these details.

The wreath is Memory Box, the leaves are from Prima, the sentiment is from Kaisercraft, the doily is from Cheery Lynn. The butterfly is from Michaels and coloured with distress inks Scattered Straw and Squeezed Lemonade. Sentiment and butterflies were stamped with Ranger Archival ink Jet Black. The frame was made with a mold and I added some yellow glitter glue along with some Starburst Stickles.

The flowers were made with Joy Crafts and coloured with Spun Sugar and Scattered Straw. The leaves were coloured with Mowed Lawn (my first time using this colour...it's bright but I like it).

In the background I actually used a large damask stencil to lay a pattern, but it's kind of obscured by all the fabulous Ecoline swirls. ARE THOSE SEQUINS THAT I SEE THERE??? Why yes, they are. I actually have an entire box filled with sequins and I've never used a single one...you can thank Cec for encouraging me to put a few on the background. I love how they look.
