Speed Craft Challenge #4 - Ink Sprays

Hello Everyone!

It's time for Challenge #4 at THE SPEED CRAFT CHALLENGE BLOG! Sadly, this will be my last challenge as a DT member. I am so honoured to have been a part of such a great team, even if it was for just a short while. I will still be following and may even pop in for a guest spot now and again, so I hope everyone will come and participate in 10 crazy minutes of crafting with Ingrid, Keren, Nikki and Donna!

This time our challenge is being hosted by the very talented Nikki and she has chosen the theme INK SPRAYS. I will give you all the challenge details in a bit, but first, here is my card

For those just joining us, here is the idea of our Speed Challenge. You can get all of your products ready ahead of time, then you set a timer for 10 minutes, start the timer and then craft like there's no tomorrow! When your 10 minutes are up, you have to stop and show us what you made. To be fair, not everyone will finish their card or project, and that's OK, just be sure to tell us how long it did take you to complete it.

Ready, here we go: 10 MINUTES AND COUNTING!

tick tock, tick tock...and...STOP! Not bad, I got quite a few background pieces done. I opted for stamps instead of texture paste, so I got more finished! I don't actually have any ink sprays, so I used my own home-made versions.

Time to complete my card...5 HOURS!

The flowers were cut out with Joy Crafts Flower 4 die and coloured with Tim Holtz distress inks Wild Honey and Rusty Hinge. The leaves are Spellbinders Foliage and I spritzed them with home-made ink spray.

The inspiration for my colour palette came from the Craft-Room Challenge - Seasonal Colours They supplied two swatch palettes for inspiration, one for autumn and one for spring. I chose autumn. My autumn cards, until now, have all been very rich and deep in colour, but the swatches on the left really inspired me to go with a brighter palette this time around.

The white flower pattern across the bottom was done with home-made texture paste (tutorial here) and a stencil I picked up at a local discount mart.

The lace was hand dyed with Tim Holtz distress inks Wild Honey and Rusty Hinge. The flourish die is Marianne Designs Garden Branch, which I spritzed with more of the home-made green ink spray.

For the background, I alternated spraying and stamping. The sprayed layers were spritzed with a beige, a green and a yellow home-made sprays, then edged with Tim Holtz distress inks Wild Honey and Rusty Hinge.

The stamped layers were done with Versa Mark and Impression Obsession Greenery stamp. I added clear embossing powder, then used the emboss resist technique with Hero Arts Soft Sand shadow ink, to leave the leaves white.

The teeny tiny leaves were cut from Impression Obsession Small Leaf Set and coloured with Tim Holtz distress inks Wild Honey and Rusty Hinge. Aren't they cutsie!!

I am entering my card into the following wonderful challenges:

That's it for today. Thank you for stopping in and for all the amazing comments. I read and appreciate every single one! If you have any questions, please let me know.

  9. I loooove the colours and design of this card. Love, love, love it. This type of card (with all the layering) is definitely something I want to try (added to my looooooooong list of "craft things to do"). :) This is gorgeous!

Gotta tell you ... I bought a baby powder the other day (guess why :P) and I'm hoping to use it to make you-know-what either this or the next weekend. Can't wait! :) I didn't know you were making sprays yourself too. This is awesome. Really girl, is there anything you can't do???

    Big hugs! xx

    1. Aahhh, thank you so much Maya! You always know how to brighten my day! I make a lot of my own supplies because there just isn't any place to buy craft products where I live, so I have to create my own stuff or do without. In the long run, it's a heck of a lot cheaper! big hugs :)

    2. We don't have many craft stores here either (we have none where I live) and even those we have usually don't have what I want (how typical!) or if they have it the price is crazy. I better not think about how much money I've already spent on craft supplies. You're definitely a HUGE inspiration for me, because I want to try and make embellishments and some craft supplies myself too. Next Saturday I'm going to a mixed media class to get some basic and after that ... Let the fun begin. :D :D
      Hugs! xx

    4. He he. I'm just telling the truth! :)
Oh yes, I will tell you all about the class. Do you know Anna Dabrowska (aka Finnabair)? She will be teaching the class. I'm really happy she found her way to this tiny country. :)
