I am really excited to be here today as the Guest Designer for a brand new mixed media blog called THE MIXED MEDIA WORLD! My friend Ingrid has started a new crafty journey and I am thrilled and honoured to be here to support her with her new venture.
For their first ever challenge they have chosen the theme ANYTHING GOES! This is an easy one ladies, so let's all head to our craft rooms and get messy with it!! For my mixed media project I decided to do my first mixed media canvas using some new DecoArt and Tim Holtz products. Hope you enjoy.
I have been dying to use my new Sizzix / Tim Holtz Mixed Media die set, and this was the perfect project for that. I have used the Latticework die from the set to add some texture on two of the corners and then I threw on some micro-beads and flat black pearls here and there to catch the ink dribbles.
I added this beautiful design below with the new Tim Holtz Flourish stencil and some texture paste. I hand dyed some cheesecloth using Tim Holtz paints Peeled Paint and Broken China.
The background was done with several layers of DecoArt Americana paints in Ebony, Titanium White, Irish Moss and Whispering Turquoise. I used the Weathered Wood Crackle medium to get these wonderful cracks in the paint. I changed my mind at the last minute about what green to use, so the wrong bottle is in the picture.
The bird is also Tim Holtz, from the Flights of Fancy stamp set. I stamped it with Ranger Archival ink Jet Black and then coloured it in with Tim Holtz Tumbled Glass and Shabby Shutters.
The flowers were cut from Joy Crafts Flower 4. I painted them with DecoArt Irish Moss and Whispering Turquoise and then coated them with Crackle Medium. A little Titanium White DecoArt paint on top and then I dribbled Tim Holtz Tumbled Glass and Shabby Shutters distress sprays all over the petals.
The feathers are from the new Tim Holtz Feather Duo set...LOVE THIS ONE!! I used the marbling technique with Peeled Paint and Broken China paints, embossed it, then highlighted the veins with Ebony DecoArt paint. I splashed it with Tim Holtz's new colour CRACKED PISTACHIO ink spray and a little Picket Fence.
I am entering my DecoArt Canvas into the following wonderful challenges:
