It's our first challenge of the year over at Crafty Cardmakers and More! Our hostess, Leslie, would like to see your creations incorporating SOMETHING OLD AND SOMETHING NEW. This could be old stash and new stash, an old technique and a new technique or a combination of both.
I decided to continue my stash of Christmas cards for next year! For my OLD, I used an old Artistic Outpost stamp set and an old Cheery Lynn die to make my pine branch (which is also an old technique). For my NEW, I used a new gold button from a mixed bag I got for Christmas, a new Darice embossing folder, my new Fired Brick distress spray and a new adhesive sealer to protect the painted background (which is now a NEW technique).
You can see my new Darice Flourish embossing folder nicely in this next shot. I painted a piece of white card stock with DecoArt Deep Red Crafter's Acrylic paint, then sprayed it with Tim Holtz distress spray Gathered Twigs. I ran the paper through my Cuttlebug using the embossing folder (a 12" long border) and then sanded off the raised areas to expose the white paper underneath.
I love my Tim Holtz inks, but because they are dye based, whenever I add snow or white paint or white texture paste on the top, the product will absorb the dye from my background underneath. This is OK sometimes, but not when you want your snow to be WHITE!!
So I got a new product for Christmas called Krylon Workable Fixative. Hey MRS DUCK - a new Krylon product to get addicted to!! It's a spray sealant with a sort of satin finish. I sprayed my background with it...it dried in like two minutes, but almost gagged me with the fumes, oops!! Then I added my DecoArt Snow Tex...
LOOK HOW NICE AND WHITE THE SNOW IS!!
I ripped a sheet of paper and stamped on some music notes, spritzed a little Tim Holtz Gathered Twigs spray and Fired Brick spray...added some pom pom trim and lots of snow.
I am entering my Winter Cardinal card into the following wonderful challenges:
- Completely Christmas - Challenge # 45 Anything Goes With A Twist Add Some Christmas Foliage
- Perfectly Rustics Design Challenge - No.39 - Animals
- Inky Impressions - Challenge #191 - Something New

DeleteBrilliantly gorgeous....love love love.xxxx{The Journey is the Start – my personal blog}
ReplyDeleteSo sweet, thanks Annie! hugs and smiles :)
DeleteAnother beautiful card! Those sealant sprays are toxic and extremely flammable, too. I bought one BUT... I wonder if a product like Ranger glue n seal would work as well. You would have to dry it with your heat gun, though. Just thinking out loud :-))
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Marci! I'ver tried Glue N Seal as well as Mod Podge, but because the Tim Holtz inks react with moisture, the minute you start brushing on the glue, the colours all start smudging!! That's why I decided on a spray. It's toxic all right, but thankfully only for a couple of minutes. I just bought a mask for my mouth and nose as well as protective eye goggles...I'M GOOD TO GO!! lol. big hugs :)
DeleteGorgeous card Pamellia! I love the colors you used and that splash of gold. My favorite is the shabby bow with a twine bow on the top, just fantastic!! The base looks amazing with that embossed border! The music sheet piece with ripped edges is such a great addition to this absolutely gorgeous creation! Love every little detail on it! I did not expect any less from you my friend!!! See you on the dance floor :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Samra!! I just love starting my day by reading one of your wonderful comments! My daily dose of sunshine and I'm ready to face the world!! ha!! Thanks again my friend, see you out on the dance floor :)
DeleteLots of techniques -sanding the raised areas is also one of my favourite things to do for dimension. Really like your diagonal design with the torn layered music sheet, and of course your bow & embellishments. Wish I could make one as pretty!

DeletePamellia, I am delighted you're still in the Christmas spirit because it warms my heart! :o) What a beauty this is! Silly me... I originally thought the musical note paper was purchased as such! Gosh, that is the most perfect stamp. With how often I wish I had music paper to coordinate with projects, that is one I need. :o) I love the added pom trim, too! And the background is gorgeous as ever. Stark white against red is one of the most beautiful things on Christmas cards. The cardinal is exquisite and I love your new embossing folder! The cluster is prettier than I can express.. the flowing ribbon, gorgeous pine needles, brilliant gold accents. **dreamy sigh** Thank you for ending my day on the most beautiful note, my sweet and talented friend! :o)

DeleteHi Pamellia
ReplyDeleteWell I did comment yesterday but my comment has disappeared! It was complimentary , honest lol!
I popped back as I remembered I didn't mention about your spray stuff. Doesn't sound like a Krylon product I want lol! I'm bad enough with hairspray (to seal mica, rather than on my hair lol!).
I think I said that your card was amazingly beautiful. . . . . .well, if I didn't use those exact words, it is anyway lol!
Careful with that spray or Sir Tim of Distressings next new colour will be Sick Pamellia (a vivid shade of green!)
Ang x
haha!! Thanks so much Ang! Mo has recommended another brand which I am going to check out. Hopefully not quite as toxic as this stuff. Have a lovely day! hugs and smiles :)
