Crafty Cardmakers #143 - Water

Hello Everyone!

It's time for another challenge over at Crafty Cardmakers and More! This time around our lovely hostess Lin has chosen the theme WATER, so she wants to see your creations that feature water of some sort however you want to portray it.

I love being around water - lakes, ponds, pools, waterfalls, you name it. I find it so soothing, so I decided to something soft and calm to remind me of the feeling I get when I am near water or when I think about water. A big thank you to Georgie of Little Blue Craft Box, who is such a talented artist and a wonderful friend. Here is the card that she made that gave me my inspiration.

For the background I covered a piece of card stock with crumpled tissue paper and a layer of DecoArt Texture Sand Paste, then I painted it with DecoArt Americana Winter Blue paint. I lightly touched up the raised areas with Tim Holtz Stormy Sky ink and then dabbed a bit of DecoArt Titanium White paint to blend it together.

The shells are made from crafter's clay and coated with DecoArt Crackle Paint. The frame was painted with Americana Blue Violet and highlighted with Titanium White. The seam binding was coloured with Tim Holtz Chipped Sapphire.

The oyster with the pearl in the center of the frame is actually two clam shell charms that I cut the eyelets off of and glued together to make a 3D oyster.

Wedding Card, Rose Video and Exciting News

Hello Everyone!

A quick thank you to everyone who has visited and subscribed to my YouTube channel. I really appreciate all the support and feedback. For those who already watched my last video, this is the card I made to show off the lovely lilac roses that I made in the tutorial. In keeping with my determination to keep it soft and subtle this week, I decided to do a wedding card.

A big thank you to Mona Pendleton of Cupcake's Creations for being such an inspiration. This card was inspired by her style. I highly recommend you pop over and visit her, you won't be disappointed! Thanks Mona!!

I apologize for being around to visit your blogs the last couple of days. My Mom has dropped in for a surprise visit and I haven't seen her since Christmas. I promise to catch up with everyone this weekend. 

For the very back layer, I embossed a piece of white card stock with an M-Bossabilities folder, painted it with Slate Grey DecoArt Americana paint and then highlighted it with a touch of Memento London Fog ink.

For the top layer, I used a Crafter's Workshop stencil and some texture paste and then painted it with Wisteria DecoArt Americana paint and then highlighted it with a touch of Dusty Concord distress ink.

The die cut behind the heart is Whimsy Circle by Memory Box. The heart is painted with DecoArt Americana Titanium White paint and highlighted with my silver Krylon pen. The half circle doily dies are cut from a Crafty Ann discontinued die. I threw a half a Spellbinders circle on top then I used a Recollections doily stencil to lay down that gorgeous pattern. Slate Grey DecoArt Americana paint and London Fog touch ups.

And now for my shabby roses! I finally got my first flower tutorial video done, YAY!!! I posted it on Monday, but for those who missed it on my channel, here it is. I hope you enjoy and let me know if I have left anything out that I can improve on for the next tutorial.

Try it on Tuesday - In the Frame

Hello Everyone!

It's time to start another challenge over at Try it on Tuesday. This time around our theme is IN THE FRAME. Decorate a frame, use a die cut to create a frame or use a frame embellishment, as long as there is some form of a frame on your project, we would love to see it!

Lately I have been using a lot exploding, glow-in-the-dark type colours on my cards, mostly because of the fun new products I have been using. Ecoline inks, Brusho Crystals, Ken Oliver Color Bursts and even the new Distress Inks have been very vibrant this year. I love the bold and beautiful, but I've been craving something more soft and subtle, so this week I'm toning things down (literally). Today is a Christmas card, I hope you like it.

I used only two colours on this card, Distress inks Weathered Wood and Milled Lavender. A little ink pads, a little ink sprays and even a little paint, but only those two colours The damask pattern is made with a Memory Box stencil and some texture paste which I coated with iridescent glitter while the paste was still wet.

The poinsettias were cut with the Tattered Poinsettia die set. I stamped the Joy Craft sentiment onto a piece of acetate so you can see the background underneath. The frame is made from hot glue and a silicone mold. I painted it white and added a little Weathered Wood paint to antique it. The pine branches were made by rolling silver Cheery Lynn Fringe die cuts around pieces of wire. That's it, easy peasy.
