Hello Everyone!
I sure hope you're having a good week! Today I am excited to be here as a Guest Designer for the fabulous challenge blog Scrapping4fun Challenges!
I had a lot of fun with the current Challenge #25 - Picture Inspiration. I will show you the picture in a minute, but first here is a quick peek at my card.
And here is the inspiration picture that they provided and a close-up of the portion that I concentrated on.
I decided to use that shabby looking fabric from the comfy chairs and ottoman. I just love those vintage yellowish and pinkish colours, so I used those as my main panels. Hanging from the tree is a lamp, but it reminded me of a birdcage, so I went with that. I got a wedding vibe, so I threw in lots of flowers and a bit of soft green foliage and there you have it. Hope you enjoy.
- for the two main panels, I used a little trick of mine to make the paper soft and flexible like fabric. All you need is a CRIMPER! Take your piece of paper and run it through your crimper, then rotate it 90 degrees and run it through again, and again, and again. I did mine about 15-20 times. Then I dampen it and flatten it out. You won't believe how soft and flexible it feels...it really is just like fabric!!
- once my panels were all coloured and ready to go, I cut out two cardboard pieces and then I pulled out some stuffing sheets from some old necklace set gift boxes. You know the stuff they line the bottom of the boxes with! I always keep them for some reason, today, I was glad I did! I set the stuffing on the cardboard then wrapped the paper around it and glued it down on the back. Punched the brads though and magico, presto, instant cushion-o!
- the flowers were made using Joy Crafts Flower 4 die and coloured with Tim Holtz distress inks Spun Sugar, Victorian Velvet, Scattered Straw and Mustard Seed. These are the same colours I used for the two fabric panels.
- the foliage is Spellbinders and was coloured with Tim Holtz distress inks Shabby Shutters and Peeled Paint and then splashed with some watered down DecoArt Forest Green Acrylic Paint.
- for the background I took kraft paper, ran it through my crimper, painted it white, splashed some colour on it then used a stencil to add some crackle texture paste and make the little flowers. Once the paste dried, I used some watered down Tim Holtz distress ink Peeled Paint to drip into the cracks. Subtle but pretty texture.
- I just got my first set of wooden flourishes!! I usually make my embellishments out of clay, but I don't have a birdcage mold, so I finally broke down and ordered some wooden ones. Figured I might as well get the matching birds too!! Cage is Maya Road and the bird is Studio Calico.
I am entering my Wedding Card into the following wonderful challenges:
- Shopping Our Stash - Challenge #167 - Don't Crimp My Style (use a paper crimper)
(I used my crimper to add texture to my background layers as well as for the technique to make the fabric panels)
(OLD - I used the stuffing liners from old necklace gift boxes and my forgotten paper crimper. NEW - my fun new wood flourish birdcage & bird)
(I think getting married is definitely a new beginning)
That's it for today. Thank you for stopping in and for all the amazing comments. I read and appreciate every single one! If you have any questions, please let me know.

DeleteI love your style, it is what I call 'messy'(lots and lots of embellishments), shabby chic' this is not derogatory it is a compliment. I dont seem to be able to achieve it though and I am so jealous.

Thank you so much Wendy. It's a wonderful compliment, actually...I work very hard to achieve that 'messy' look. lol As far as cities go, Toronto is pretty good, although there is nary a craft store to be found. hugs :)
