Try it on Tuesday - Crowning Glory

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to another challenge starting over at Try it on Tuesday. This time around our theme is CROWNING GLORY so we want to see a crown in some form or another on your project.

I  thought I would experiment with some new products and techniques today, but not everything went according to plan. My finished card doesn't exactly look like the version in my head, but then I suppose...does it ever?? I mean, let's face it...if things always went according to plan, I would be a billionaire, weigh 105 lbs and have a magic button in my home that when pushed, instantly cancels a TV show, so I don't have to be subjected to things like Honey Boo Boo!!

I recently picked up some water soluble inks called Ecoline. The colours are really vibrant and they react to different surfaces in different ways (so much fun). I painted the background with DecoArt yellow paints in two shades, then I spritzed a little Goosebumps, thinking it would act as a resist for the Ecoline. But when I splashed my "yellow" Ecoline on the panel, it didn't seem to care about the Goosebumps, AND it's more orange than yellow! DOH! I quickly compensated by washing the layer with some watered down Gesso to mute the colours and then I proceeded to add a little orange to everything else to balance it out.

The stamp set is from Stampendous. The Chloe die cut is from Memory Box. The ribbon was coloured with distress inks Mustard Seed and Wild Honey. The honeycomb pattern in the background is the Reverse Chickenwire Stencil from Crafter's Workshop.

The drips are supposed to be honey, but I'm not sure they're really the right colour. I just couldn't seem to get the right mixture of orange and yellow together. Oh well, still looks like honey I think. The washi tape is actually hand made. I stamped the checker board border from Prima onto some medical gauze and ripped it off in strips. Seemed to work pretty well, think I will use that little trick more often!!

The random stamping in the background is a small clear background stamp from Prima  from the Jack and Jill collection. I use this stamp a lot to throw a bit of design on a card. It's very subtle and goes with any theme of card you're making.

That's it for today. Thank you for stopping in and for all the amazing comments. I read and appreciate every single one! If you have any questions, please let me know.

  15. For the most part, nothing I set put to create ends up looking what I've envisioned in my head! I think you're card looks fantastic. I've long had an idea in my head to make something around the idea of Queen Bee--you've reminded me of that. Thank you, also, for the very sweet comment on my blog yesterday--it's the very first time anyone said they were pinning something of mine. I thank you for that!

  22. Wow, Pamellia, maybe this gorgeous creation isn't what you had planned...BUT what the heck when you can come up with something like this. I am not a yellow/orange person usually, but I can easily make an exception for this! There are so many brilliant elements such as the bow and your handmade washi tape. As for the 'honey'...are you sure it is not sticky and sweet...it sure looks as if it is. Love it!

I love all the dies you used and the gorgeous background! Beautiful job!

  58. Sa-weeeet!!!!! Love the colors, Pamellia, whether planned or not! And your honey does look like honey...of course not like the stuff left in the bottom of my little bear...that's all dark and crystalized! It looks like the kind of honey I would like to see in my cupboard.

Although I adore everything about this card (and all you cards!), my favorite here has got to be that chicken wire background in grey. LOVE it!

I am snickering about H B B, because just last night I was thinking "I wonder what kind of cr-p my friends in other countries are subjected to on TV?" Was thinking of a new family reality TV program they are airing here called "The Willis Family". I don't watch much TV; only right before I go to bed, if I can get there early enough, and this is one program worth watching. As for HBB (I don't even like to give it the time to write it out) I am so happy they don't air that anymore; or at least not when my TV is on. I do like the idea of a billionaire button, and while I would never want to be 105 lbs.again, I would certainly like to hit the anti-sag and anti-after- 50-bulge button!

I always enjoy reading your posts, and seeing what you have been creating! Such a wonderful way to start the day! Big hugs to you!

  65. Sooooooooooooo... it's most likely rather good that the completed project didn't look like the version in your head Pamellia. Why? Well.... in my humble opinion - your mind functions at genius crafting level when 90% of the rest of us are much below that!!! I'm just sayin' - what's in your head is most likely way too astounding for us anyway. So there you have it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is really fun! Love the background and the dripping honey is wonderful! Thanks bunches for sharing another great creation. j.

  66. Oops, translation issues - who cares because this is fabulous. I love the balance of the yellow and orange and the honey drips are brilliant. Also loving all the texture and your flowers and bow. This is just The Bees Knees :)

You do have a magic button, at least for the TV. It is called changing the channel or turning it off completely. You know that it is called The Boob Tube for a reason. I am a television watcher but there are some shows that are just not worth wasting my time on so I have learned to hit that button and grab a book.

    Hugs!
