My Bunk-Bed Button Box

Hello Everyone!

Guess what, it's time for another project inspired by some fantastic challenges! I will tell about the challenges in a bit, but first...as usual, a bit about my project.

I had so much fun making my Summer Garden Birdhouse with the Special K box, that I was really excited about the prospect of doing something like it again. Back to the recycle bin I went, and this time I ended up with a large 5 Minute Rice box. Here's the finished project real quick.

I will now answer the two biggest questions on your mind...

#1 - Can I say "Bunk-Bed Button Box" ten times real fast?? The answer is no I can't, it's REALLY hard!!
#2 - Why did I name it My 'Bunk-Bed Button' Box, I see no bunk-beds or buttons?? The answer is...drum roll please...

How did I do that??

- I have included the template at the bottom of the post. I designed it myself and it's pretty easy to use. You can make it as small or as big as you like, as long as the pieces stay the same size, relative to each other. Solid lines are where you cut, dashed lines are where you fold.

- I painted all the pieces with a couple coats of Gesso, then a coat of home-made texture paste, which I smooshed on really unevenly in order to get all that fabulous texture. Then I painted the pieces with several different shades of DecoArt paints.

- I used my blending tool to apply some Tim Holtz distress ink Shabby Shutters and Bundled Sage to accent the green paints.

- I stamped all my images with Ranger Archival Potting Soil ink and then I applied some more texture paste using the Crafter's Workshop Reversed Chicken Wire stencil. Then I applied some white paint to highlight the raised areas.

- the pink flowers were handmade using Joy Crafts Flower 4 die and coloured with Tim Holtz distress ink Victorian Velvet. The ribbon was dyed with Victorian Velvet, Shabby Shutters and Bundled Sage.

- on the leaves and those wire twirly things I made, I applied a bit of glue and some Our Craft Lounge Sparkly Fluff to give them a soft furry texture. I wish you could feel them, they're so fuzzy!!

- The butterfly was punched out with a Tonic Studios punch. I painted it, inked it, distressed it then applied some Crackle Accents and let it dry. After it was dry, I applied some Gathered Twigs distress stain through the cracks then highlighted a few spots with white paint.

Here is where I got my inspiration and where I will be entering my button box:
I would like to thank the Design Teams for all the inspiration and for getting my creative juices flowing!

Crafty Catz - Challenge #244 - Recycle It
(the challenge that inspired me to rummage through the recycle bin again - absolutely love it!)

Frilly and Funkie - Hip To Be Square
(my inspiration for making a box as my project)

(my inspiration for all the textures on the box , on the leaves and on the butterfly)

(my inspiration for the use of the sisal - a natural wood fibre - it really gives it an out doorsie feel!)

(my inspiration for what to do with the inside of the box, what to fill it with, and of course, the big loopy bow!)

(the challenge that started it all - anything but a card - thanks for the inspiration!)

Here is my Bunk-Bed Box template if anyone cares to give it a go. Just right click on the image and open link in new tab, then you can save it to your computer. Have fun and I sure would love to see any projects you might come up with!!

That's it for today. Thank you for stopping in and for all the amazing comments. I read and appreciate every single one! If you have any questions, please let me know.

    1. Thank you so much Janette! I actually got the idea from something similar I had seen at a craft show earlier in the summer (only I think it was taller with 3 drawers), so I was pretty happy that I could remember the shape enough to get a template designed. I would love it if you gave it a go, can't wait to see!! Crafty hugs :)

  14. Hi Pamellia
Will have to start looking in the Thesaurus for more descriptions of your projects as stunning just doesn't seem adequate. Did something similar when I first got my Hougie (scoring board) but it was nowhere near as sophisticated or as marvellous as this. May just have to give it another go.
    Have a great weekend.

    1. Hi Sue! I did design the template, yes. But I didn't design the box itself. I actually saw one at a craft show a couple of months ago, only it had 3 drawers. I remember thinking 'oh, I could do something like that'...and so I did!! It's not exactly the same, but I think I did pretty good from memory.

Thank you very much for the wonderful comment! Crafty hugs :)
