Try it on Tuesday - Sewing / Buttons

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to another challenge starting over at Try it on Tuesday. This time around our theme is SEWING AND BUTTONS. I had this cute little dress form stamp set from Hot Off The Press that I've been dying to use, and since the sentiment in the stamp set says "Best Friends...", I thought I would go with that for my theme.

I was getting tired of my Hollyhock flowers, so I thought it was time I cooked up something new. I wasn't really sure what kind of flower they looked like, so I posed the question on Facebook. Thank you very much to Becca Dawn and Cec Wintonyk who have told me they look like GARDENIAS.

Anyway, I was happy with how they turned out. I cut them with Joy Crafts and coloured them with Simon Says Stamp Doll Pink and Cotton Candy and Tim Holtz, Dusty Concord. I also added some dewdrops with Glossy Accents.

For the background, I dabbed some white DecoArt Acrylic paint through a Memory Box stencil and then sprayed the panel with distress sprays Dusty Concord and Weathered Wood. The paint acts as sort of a resist, making the colours more muted.

I stamped some rulers in the corners and some random sewing patterns from Prima using Jet Black Archival ink. The ribbon was coloured with distress inks Simon Says Stamp Doll Pink and Tim Holtz Dusty Concord. The stitching is real...I think I'm finally getting the hang of that sewing machine!

The button is made of wood. I painted it white, stamped a little flower on it and coloured it with a purple Copic marker and then coated it with clear embossing powder. I was a little disappointed that the purple really faded after I embossed the button. Sad face. I made the frame out of crafter's clay and coated it with DecoArt Crackle Paint. A touch of Weathered Wood paint to give it a little colour.

That's it for today. Thank you for stopping in and for all the amazing comments. I read and appreciate every single one! If you have any questions, please let me know.

  10. Such lovely colours in this project Pamellia, love the new flowers too. Gorgeous stamping and inking going on here, can I ask how you avoid your sprays from clogging up? I must admit mine don't get used as much as yours so they sit for months on the shelf but it's very frustrating that when I want to use them they won't spray. By the time I've soaked the sprayer in hot water to un-bung it all inspiration for my project has gone. :(

    1. Hi Lorraine, thanks so much for the sweet comment. I used to have the same problem but then I discovered that if you store them on their sides, like wine...that they don't get clogged. The sentiment settles on the side of the bottle instead of the bottom, works like a charm. hugs :)
