Decorative Pin Box with Video

Hello Everyone!

I thought I would share something a little different today. This is a video that I put together for Scrap n Art Magazine some time back and you may have seen me reaching for it in my other videos. I keep it right on my desk and it's super easy to make, I hope you enjoy.

Here we go with my first altered project video. It's a simple and fun project that I hope you can get some inspiration from. Thanks again to everyone for all the wonderful feedback on my YouTube channels, it's so wonderful to hear from you.

***

So I was walking along the lake path and I came across this area that was swarming with critters! The trees were filled with birds and there were squirrels scurrying about everywhere. Then this woman holding a plastic bag walks up to the little picnic table at the base of tree and proceeds to cover it with birdseed!! She tells me she does this every couple of days! WHAT!!!! I know where to go for pictures of birds now!!

So I back up about 30 yards or so and wait until she walks away. And they came, lots and lots of birds!! First up, this stunning Blue Jay! I don't know what the smaller brown ones are.

Then came a two Cardinals. They are such a gorgeous bird, so brilliant with the red!! There are two males and one female there! How awesome is that!

Then came the squirrels and chased off all but these black birds which may be Grackles (if you zoom in you can see that their heads are actually blue), but eventually they flew off as well, leaving the food all to the squirrels.

MARIO THE CARDINAL WAS NOT IMPRESSED!!
"If only I could get a little bit closer.."

"If I tip toe quietly, perhaps Mr Squirrel won't see me sneaking up from the rear!"
closer, closer. closer...

"TRIUMPHANT! I'M THE KING OF THE WORLD!"

One last thing to share...how excited am I that the sun is finally heading back to the North Horizon!! This was my view as I drank my coffee this morning! This is going to be a great summer!!

That's it for today. Thank you for stopping in and for all the amazing comments. I read and appreciate every single one! If you have any questions, please let me know.

  6. What a sweet box! Such a beautiful place to keep your pins or any small items - love it! The small brown birds in your photos are sparrow - there are many many varieties (ie different markings on their feathers - I read that they are not indigenous to North America - they came from England on the boats (stow aways!) and there are no natural preditors so they are very abundant here! The other larger brown bird with your squirrels is a mourning dove.

  20. Pamellia, I am thoroughly enamored with every gorgeous inch of this project! I made the decorative pin holder a few months ago and planned on making one for me, but never did. Now I am thankful because I like this idea so much better (of course)! You've altered it so beautifully. I love the color palette... so refreshing and inspiring. The butterflies are gorgeous and I adore the trim work. There's nothing lovelier than pretty organization and you've mastered that with this project. Thank you for the inspiration, my dear friend. This is now on my "must make" list! I am eager to watch the video soon. Thank you for making it for us. :o)
Oh! And I love your pictures! The sunrise is glorious and Mario makes my heart happy... hehe! He was determined. ;) You always fill my day with extra joy!

    Hugs and blessings,

  28. Hi Pamellia
Wow! What a wonderful way to store your pins. A beautiful box and would be great for someone who loves sewing too.
Lovely to see so many sparrows. They had been in decline over here but have been picking up in number again. We are lucky we have them visit our feeder every day with the blue tits, coal tits robins and blackbirds. Quite a tame mix compared to your cardinals and jays.
    Best wishes.

  36. HI Pamellia,
thank you so much for that lovely video tutorial on your super pin box.
The pin box is an excellent design as usual, and the colours are stunning.
Superb photos of the birds, squirrels, and the sunset.
Not seen some of those close up before so thank you.
I used to love feeding the birds in my back garden, but we have a fishing lake just behind our garden fence, and feeding the birds used to attract the water rats, and one tried to come indoors in the summer when you have your door open so now I don't feed the poor birds as I don't want a rat indoors.
So you can see why I love your photos.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.

It is so kind of you to share these with us Pamellia - I love nature photographs. You named them all too - awesome!
Your pin box is just so cute and so very clever, I would never have thought to do that. I need to get some stuffing and Decoupage glue soon lol!
I just posted my hanging and linked it up to some of the challenges that you are on the DT of. This is the hanging that you inspired my lovely friend. Yep you set me on an alternate course and I am loving the ride lol! Thank you lovely lady Karen xx

Beautiful pics and great inspiration all round - where do you get those beautiful hat pins?? xxx Lynn

  56. How excited was I to see your altered box (I seem to have some sort of addiction for little boxes). I love those papers, they are so pretty, but I was so surprized that the top of the box was not fabric! I loved the video, very informative and great fun to watch.

Lovely photographs of the birds, you have some fabulous looking birds - they are so colourful.

  57. Beautiful little box and what a wonderful transformation! I love what you did with the paper on the top. You make a great video--they always hold my attention and I love that you show just what you need to see. I've watched a few videos lately that I end up just turning off, because they are too long or show about 2 minutes of fussy cutting or something like that. My hats off to you for your production and editing skills, too! Sorry this is so late, but my computer died...yup! brand new laptop now with a second hard drive and it just froze right after I viewed your video. Now I am sharing again! Oh, boy! Big hugs to you!

  59. Love your gorgeous pin box...such a lovely design! Love your pictures too :) We don't see any Cardinals here (sigh), but the Blue Jays come to eat at our feeders. They like to let us know when the feeders are empty...they get increasingly noisy until they get fed. Hugs!
