Happy Birthday - Red, Roses and Ribbon

Hello Everyone!

I think we all know that I have a tendency to lean towards soft pastels and neutrals when it comes to my crafting, I just love pinks, peaches and soft greens, especially when making flowers. But today I was inspired by some challenges to do something different - RED - a colour which I normally reserve for Christmas projects. I think the red looks pretty good! Here is a quick peek, then I will dish all the details.

- the backgrounds were done with Impression Obsession stamps - Time Worn Roses and cover-a-card Batik Pattern. I used Tim Holtz distress ink Frayed Burlap and Ranger Archival ink Vermillion.

- the ribbon and roses were coloured with a combination of Tim Holtz distress inks Festive Berries and Aged Mahogany. What a messy business that was! Warning ladies, wear gloves while drenching ribbon in dye!

- the round frame was handmade using polymer clay and a Martha Stewart mold. The image inside is a Hot Off the Press stamp and was coloured with Copics and the die cut is Memory Box - Whimsy Circle. The sentiment is from Heartfelt Creations.

I was inspired by the following challenges and their talented design teams:

(this is the challenge that inspired me to step outside my pastel comfort zone and try a new colour!)

( I usually make my own flowers, but this challenge inspired me to dig into my old stash and pull out those pre-made flowers)

(this challenge really inspired me to use extra ribbon and use it in a way other than just adding a bow)

(the inspiration for my layout, although I had to off-set my circles a bit to balance out the ribbon strands)

That's it for today. Thank you for stopping in and for all the amazing comments. I read and appreciate every single one! If you have any questions, please let me know.

  21. I too , as you may know by now, work a lot with pastels, not as soft as yours but still pastels. Red is one of the most challenging colors for me, and I think you did a great job. Your card looks very elegant and the tone of red is just perfect. Thanks for joining us this week at Hiding in my Craft Room.

  23. Hi Pamellia
Red is like turkey. . . . . not just for Christmas lol! Red is hubby's favourite colour so I have to include it on his Christmas and birthday cards. Its a great colour.

    1. Aahhh, thank you so much Ang! All of my projects are done using paper that I stamped or painted. I don't own a single sheet of patterned paper, it's difficult to find where I live, so I just do it myself. Plus, it's more fun that way!! Crafty hugs :)
