Our Creative Corner - February Challenge

Hello Everyone!

It's the first of the month which means it's time to start another fabulous challenge at Our Creative Corner. I would like to thank everyone who joined me last month as I hosted my very first challenge. I was just blown away with the many creative ways you found to use your leftover Christmas bits, it's going to be very difficult to choose winners!

This month our challenge is being hosted by the talented Julia and she has chosen TIC TAC TOE. I will give you the challenge details in a bit, but first, here is my make.

Julia has asked that you choose one line from the grid shown. This can be a horizontal, vertical or diagonal line but you must select the middle square as one of your choices. What you make is your choice but please ensure that the three items you have chosen are clearly visible on your make. Please state in your post which line you have chosen. Inks, stains, sprays etc can be used as necessary on your project.

I HAVE CHOSEN - PAINTS - STAMPS - STENCILS

AS WELL AS - EMBOSSING POWDERS - STAMPS - TWINE

I really wanted to try a bunch of new products and techniques for my wall hanging...some of them worked and some of them, not so much. I will tell you about them all and you can decide.

Believe it or not, these big giant red and silver flowers are completely metallic! As usual, I had no control over my camera, so it's really hard to see how amazing they are. Both styles of these luscious flowers were handmade using Spellbinders Create a Carnation (the small ones too!!). The red ones were coloured with Tim Holtz Festive Berries and Fired Brick and then painted with DecoArt Dazzling Metallics Festive Red paint. The silver ones were coloured with Peacock Feathers, DecoArt Slate Grey Paint and Tim Holtz Brushed Pewter and then highlighted with my silver Krylon pen.

The leaves were cut using a La La lands die and coloured with Tim Holtz Peeled Paint and Memento Pistachio. The heart was cut from a piece of cardboard using a Go Kreate die and then I used my brand new Tim Holtz Pumice Stone embossing powder to give it texture (one of the prizes that I won from my Haunted House). I sprayed it with Brushed Pewter for added metallic areas.

The flower cameo was made with crafter's clay and a silicone mold. I covered with crackle paint, then I added Worn Lipstick ink and Brushed Pewter paint. The large and small butterfly were also handmade and treated with the same products.

The white flowers were painted with my brand new and very first PaperArtsy product called Metallic Glaze. I really hope you can see the amazing shimmer of that big giant white rose.

I also added some of the Metallic Glaze to the crackle background here and there for some extra glimmer.

HOW DID I DO THAT?

-I started with a layer of DecoArt Cinnamon Brown coloured home made texture paste and then gave it a spackle treatment. I wanted lots of peaks so I could try something NEW. 

- I used a crackle technique with white paint to get this amazing texture.

- I missed a picture here, but for my new technique, I sanded off some of the peaks of the texture paste so spots of the brown showed through in random patterns. I will definitely be using this technique again.

- I stamped the Indigo Blue stamp using Ranger Archival Sepia ink (remind me to but some burgundy ink, because this was not the colour I wanted!).

- I applied some home-made texture paste in pink using a Kaisercraft wheat stencil and then while it was still wet, I sprinkled on some Tim Holtz Victorian Velvet distress glitter.

I had to take a quick shot at this most bizarre angle, so you could see how truly textured the background is. The mountains and valleys of the texture paste are really quite amazing in real life.
