Today I have something really different to share with you. Since I am having a month of Christmas for July, I thought I would slip in this wintery layout that I originally designed for Scrap n Art Magazine. I've never done a layout before, and I've decided it's not really my cup of tea. It was fun to do something new, but it was a really large surface to try and cover, it was hard to photograph in my small space, and now that it's finished, I have absolutely no use for it. Think I'll stick with cards. lol
The photograph is one that I took during our very first snowfall here in our new home. Thanks to my hubby for printing this off for me at his office. I went with black and white to go with the cool blues and greys of the layout.
The papers, tags and buttons were all supplied by Fancy Pants. The snowflake stencil is from Crafter's Workshop and the mini ice cubes and snowflake charms are from my stash.
***
Thought I would share some more pictures of the Credit River. This is a new spot we checked out. It was really pretty, but we didn't get too far on the trail. There was a portion where it was all swamp, and the only way to cross was over a bunch of branches someone had thrown down years ago. NO THANKS! That's a really wet muddy accident just waiting to happen! lol
I always Google the best I can to identify the flowers, trees, etc. that I run across. Please, if I ever misidentify something, let me know. Thanks to Sara Emily for correcting my error about the Morning Glory that I purchased, which is apparently not a Morning Glory at all, but a Petunia.
First up is a Canada Thistle, with a little bit of wildlife having some lunch.
my artsy-fartsy shot of the day...
Next up is a CHICORY.
Remember the little baby Sparrow who was sitting in my tree for two days eyeballing the feeder. Well she finally took the leap and got to the feeder, problem was, then she was stuck on the feeder all day. She just sat their crying and crying. I finally went outside and gave her a little boost back to the tree.
A Black-Capped Chickadee striking a lovely pose for the camera.
And on the patio today, absolutely nothing has changed. JUNIOR is curled up on the chair enjoying a lovely nap in the shade, as he does every day now, regardless of whether I'm outside or not.
Junior isn't the only one taking advantage of the nice weather. Her are my little ones - SCULLY, who prefers to lay on the patio floor and soak up the sun, and PEBBLES who does not enjoy the sun or the floor!! lol
Last but not least, my token after dinner shot...
That's it for today. Thank you for stopping in and for all the amazing comments. If you have any questions or interesting tidbits about today's wildlife, please let me know.
I can understand your sentiments about layouts Pamellia - I stick mainly to cards too, as I have no real use for layouts, and I am too miserly to spend $ on something I won't use.
ReplyDeleteLove your layout for all that :-)
Your lake and little critter photos are a joy to behold.
Blessings
Maxine
You certainly captured the cold and frosty winery feel Pamellia, lovely l/o.
ReplyDeleteJust to explain lack of visits for the next few weeks, being 'sent' to Italy to stay with an old school friend to recoup a little ahead of our holiday later in the month.

This is a lovely layout Pamellia...as you well know I'm the opposite and love making them. You have got such a pretty crisp snowy background going on there..beautiful. Your river walk looked very cool and Junior asleep made me chuckle..talk about make yourself at home! Hugs xx
ReplyDeleteHaha so funny! But it is still beautiful! Love your cards though. We are opposite in this, I really am having had time creating cards because of the small size LOL! Love your photography! Gorgeous pictures. Sorry I haven't been around much! Very busy weeks and I am little bit tired... Need vacation... xxxx hugs!
ReplyDeleteWow!! This may not be your cup of tea Pamellia but you have still thrown yourself headlong into the task!! I have never seen a scrapbook layout that contains quite as much beautiful detail as this and if I were you I would hang it on the wall in a box frame!! Stunning photographs as usual, little pals seem to be making themselves quite at home!! xx
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work Pamellia, the LO is very wintry, well done. Love all the photos, especially that sweet little sparrow, but I'm disappointed you didn't try to cross the river and swamps - that would have made for some great action photos! Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteWhat a fab layout...looks so frosty and cool! Perfect for Christmas in July! Loving the weather there...wish I could come and enjoy with all the cute animals and birds...and the nature...and of course YOU! :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, simply amazing layout, wonderful hues and would look beautiful on a canvas...I admire scrapbook layouts enormously but of the same mind, What to do with them? Thanks for sharing more of your beautiful surroundings Pamellia. hugs Ruth xxx

A beautiful project, gorgeous colours and awesome photos. {aNNie}
ReplyDeleteThe black and white imagery works beautifully with the icy colours . A beautiful card, so eye catching and really captures the wintry feel. Love your nature pictures too, so uplifting. Have a lovely weekend. Tracy x
ReplyDeleteSorry Pamellia a beautiful layout not card. So used to seeing cards from you I automatically put card even though I read layout lol. X X
ReplyDeleteThis is such a magical creation, Pamellia! xxx
ReplyDeleteFinally I make it across to visit!! Pamellia Huge sincere apologies for taking so long to return. You can be sure though that I have been continually admiring your amazing work from a far.
ReplyDeleteYour layout is stunning . You really have captured the essence of those icy wintery days with so much beauty - those crisp , cool shades , the ice crystals, all the snowflake stencils, the layers and dimension and just the ideal photograph. The design and execution is spot on and so eyecatching . It would look perfect in a frame to be displayed during the winter season.
Hope to not be as long in returning
hugs x
Pamellia, you may not make layouts your cup of tea, but this one is sure one cool feast for my eyes! I agree that there's just too much space to work on (and way too much work, in my opinion!), but you have done it so well. Great design that the eye follows effortlessly across the page. My favorite bit, aside from the photo itself are the little piles of ice cubes! I need to get some of those! Frame this work of art and display it proudly!
ReplyDeleteLove all the photos, and so does Roger. He enlarged the one of Scully! Junior is getting to be more of a pet than a wild animal, making himself quite comfortable. I find that absolutely amazing that he sleeps on your patio chair! Oh, and that sweet sparrow scared to fly off! Those lavender petunias do look like morning glories; happy to help with one of your flowers! It's pretty sad that I haven't been able to identify many of the ones you show. My sister can rattle off the proper names of just about any plant you ask her, and when her kids were small, they could, too! The girl's walking encyclopedia on so many topics!
Have a wonderful day! Big hugs!
Pamellia, you may not think it was your cup of tea, but it certain is one for me! I am inspired! It's fun seeing your photography utilized inside your art so that it becomes a true gallery worthy masterpiece! It should be hanging somewhere to catch the eye of many a nature lover. How about doing one with one of your sweet squirrel children in the photo? Whether it is a layout, card or canvas? I'd love seeing that! In the meantime, gorgeousness layered upon more gorgeousness! OH SO PRETTY! It's a way of showing the beauty of nature on a stark day. Thank you for all the lovely photographs today, my friend. Hope you are feeling better, and that you enjoy a wonderful weekend! hugs, de
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend indeed! Your first (and last - lol) layout turned out fantastic! I love the colors and the paper with torn edges. Nicely done my friend! I still need to check out the video for the floral card you make...man, I seem to have less and less time for anything. What's up with that???

Lovely layout, Pamellia. I'm with you in that I am not a layout person. I made a view but much prefer making cards or tags. Your photos always bring a smile to my face of all your furry friends, especially today--poor little sparrow, adorable squirrel and the precious doggies!
ReplyDeleteA stunning layout project and not like anything I have seen before. Such a delight to see your beautiful photographs-thank you for sharing those
ReplyDeleteLove Chrissie xx
Your layout come out so pretty, Pamellia!! I think that the black & white choice is just perfect with these cold colours and the distressed papers! Love the ice mini-cubes and the snowflake charm!
ReplyDeleteAmazing photos! Fabulous natural scenes and I'm in love with the little baby Sparrow, so cute!! Perhaps she has lost her mum and has to learn a lot of things about the live... :)Poor birdie!
Junior is another love for me!! How sweet is, so curled for a napping on your chair!! He has fabulous fur and eyes! So cute!! I have never seen squirrels so domestic before yours! Thanks for sharing your photos!
Gorgeous layout Pamellia, makes me feel all cosy and Wintery now! I know what you mean about layouts, I'm not sure about them either. Ah I love little Junior, he makes me laughs how he loves his comforts!

You may not think scrapbooking is your cup of tea but this layout is gorgeous and I think it would be so pretty in a frame . I love to scrapbook too but tend to always go back to cardmaking . Love that little Junior he's adorable
ReplyDeleteYes I am not a layout girl either but never say never...Yours is so beautiful. The colours are so delicate and pretty and the black and white photo works so well. I am like you and would have no use for it and I do like to make cards and things that I find uses for. Spectacular photos of the flowers...very artsy x Junior always makes me smile and you've got a real friend there x
ReplyDeleteHi Pamellia you really live in a beautiful area, and I do enjoy your scenic photos. Fab ones of your flora and little birds, poor wee sparrow, glad you came to her rescue. Now your own fur babbies are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteOh yes and your layout, absolutely beautiful, love all the frostiness, there is aways so much detail in your projects, just fab, Kate x
AN ADORABLE layout --- I think maybe you could start a Scrapbook?! Why not?!
ReplyDeleteI am also not the layout girl -- never did one...I feel with you!

Oh my goodness, Pamellia, you are as amazing at creating layouts as you are at cards!! This is spectacular!! I love all of the layers and the textures!! Such a beautiful picture that you've showcased!! The cracked snowflakes look amazing and I love, love the ice cubes!! Such a perfect touch!! It's a shame you don't want to create more layouts, but I totally understand!! I'm glad you shared this one with us!!

It may not be your 'thing' but you have done such a beautiful job on this layout Pamellia! I love those crackled snowflakes and your wonderful layering. I really do understand what you are saying though, they are so big to work on and take up more space than I could afford to store them in!
ReplyDeleteHow very kind of you to give that lovely little sparrow a boost back home, he must have been very frightened. Junior really does make me smile, he is so at home with you! Scully and Pebbles are adorable! Love your arty photo, the colours are fantastic! Hope you have a lovely weekend. Hugs, Anne xx
Not for me either Pamellia, so much space to decorate and what to do with it! lol.
ReplyDeleteYou still have made a gorgeous page, beautiful photo and layers of beauty.
Great photo shots, you fur babies are adorable.
Pam x
Great layout page. Maybe not the size you like, but it looks fantastic.
ReplyDeleteYou live in a lovely area for your walks, the photos are super. The little sparrow looked so cute, she be calling back once she finds her wings to fly.
It was good to see your fur babies out on the patio .
Yvonne xx
Hi Pamellia
ReplyDeleteWell, tea it may not be but its still a thing of frosty beauty. A super colour palette that shouts Winter.
A good idea not to test bits of tree laying over a muddy swamp when carrying expensive camera gear.......or you could have sent the drone thingy over to see if there was anything over there worth the risk lol!
Would love to know how you "boosted" the sparrow and I'd start charging that squirrel some rent.
The Girls look beautiful as usual.
Have a great weekend.
Ang x
This is a great layout, there is so much detail to see in the close ups, you have used some really gorgeous things to give it that wintery feel. I love the idea of recycling it into cards, I cannot wait to see what you make with it.
ReplyDeleteYour Credit River is a beautiful spot, I can just imagine floating down it under the dappled leaves, listening to the hum of bees and the birds twittering. Ahh, bliss.
Stunning close ups of the thistles and bees, amazing shots. It is lovely to see pics of the girls today, although they do look warm, poor loves.
Have a great weekend.

Hi Pamellia!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen you do a layout before, and I'm absolutely loving this one!! It's frilly, frosty, shabby chic perfection. The paper piecing along with the touches of shimmer and ice... I can feel the chill in the air! What a wonderful way to showcase the lovely photo. And ALL of your photography is stunning. I feed birds too. There are beautiful songbirds just outside my craft room window all day (along with about 6 squirrels) and I never get lucky enough to get one to sit for a photo. I'm going to call you the bird and squirrel whispered-Lol!
Hugs,
Nancy
Oh, Pamellia, one thing is for shure, you are as brilliant at layouts as well as at cards! It's a feast for my eyes with all those fantastic layers, perfectly achieved frosty look, spectacular embellishing and a wonderful winter photo! Those ice cubes are simply stunning and I really have to get these! Oh dear, what a glorious layout you have created! I absolutely love it!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to see how Pebbles and Scully are doing! Junior feels himself so safe and happy with you! I adore your arty photographs!
Have a wonderful weekend, my friend! Big hugs! Branka xx
I think your layout is superb, created in your own inimitable style and looking so cool (sorry, pun intended). I want a Junior he is so adorable and obviously loves being near you and your after dinner shot is stunning, I love the silhouettes and the reflections. Great post as always Pamellia. Have a great weekend xxx
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely and your black and white photograph looks wonderful against the cool, minty background. Sometimes it's good to step out of our comfort zone, and I love what you've done here. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Crafty hugs, Sandra X
ReplyDeleteLove your layout and the B+W photo is set off to perfection. You do things I wouldn't do, but so admire Everything you do. I know what you mean about no use for things LOL. If you want to do layouts why not try digital? at least it's only the 'puter that keeps it them .
ReplyDeleteFabulous shots too, I wouldn't have crossed the river either LOL.

ReplyDeleteIt's such a beautiful page! Love the colour palette. I'm really loving your photos too and that little sparrow almost had me in tears!
ReplyDeletePamellia, your layout is beautiful! The sheer volume of space scares me, too. What amazes me is that your layout still captures the quintessential Pamellia style... and that makes it such a unique design. The lovely layers and wintry elements sprinkled throughout are just like your cards. They are gorgeous! The big snowy background layer is so pretty and I adore the icy color palette you used. I do like the idea of scrapping your photography... it's a beautiful way to preserve special images your heart has captured. Stunning work, my dear friend. You always inspire. :o)
ReplyDeleteYour newest photographs are so beautiful. I am always whisked away into your gorgeous world. :o) The landscape is so dreamy and I just want to love on all of your animal friends.
