It's time for another challenge over at Frilly and Funkie. The lovely and talented Cec is our hostess and she has chosen the theme "SING, SING, SING". She would like you to make a shabby chic or vintage project with music as the central theme. You can add musical instruments, music paper, sentiments about music or even vintage images with a music theme. One lucky winner will receive a $25 gift certificate to Linda's shop The Funkie Junkie Boutique!
I have put together this card using some of the gorgeous Pion papers that Linda sells in her shop. I have to say how in love I am with the soft, pale colours and the dainty, feminine patterns!! I am completely hooked and will be experimenting more with this lovely line of papers!
Almost every product on my card is something new for me to play with. The layered butterfly is done with the new Tim Holtz Butterfly punch and I stamped it using a sentiment from the Graphic 45 Christmas Carol stamp set and then stapled them together using the Tiny Attacher. The "friend" sentiment is from the Tim Holtz Friendship Words die set. The fabric flower is from May Arts.
The music note die is from Memory Box. The flowers were made with my new Tim Holtz punch Tattered Floral and I coloured them with Distress ink Old Paper. The bronze medallion and the beautiful pearls and the stamens are from Linda's shop.
The doily die is from Prima and the floral flourish die you see peeking out from the layers is from Spellbinders. I distressed everything with a little Gathered Twigs and added some cheesecloth between the layers.

My card won an award in the following wonderful challenge:

Well we finally got some snow and I know I've asking for snow, but it was blooming miserable outside today!! It was so windy that I couldn't get any good closeup shots and my glasses were fogged over so I couldn't even tell what I was aiming my camera at half the time!
Doesn't this look like a Christmas tree??? It's actually only about 4 inches tall, WHAT!!! Love it!
My first icicles of the season!! I love icicles, so pretty!
RIDDLE ME THIS, BATMAN!!! Why is there no snow on that middle picnic table? Did someone think they try to sit for lunch, in this most ridiculous of weathery days, or did the snow fairy just run out of flakes?? lol
OK MRS DUCK, here's the thing with the cattails. First time I ran across them I reached out to touch one, and my friend yelled "don't touch it". I assumed maybe they are poisonous or something. I'm now thinking that they're probably not, and as soon as I can reach out and touch one of them without freezing my fingers off, I shall do just that!
I have a photo from New Years day that I want to share with you. the weather was quite nasty and visibility was very low. As I was walking along, I thought I saw something out of the corner of my eye so I'm aimed my camera in the general direction and hit the shutter a few times. This is what it looked like. Not much to see at first...
On my way back to the house, a lady said to me "Happy New Year, hope you see a cardinal today". I asked her what she meant by that and she tells me that there are only two cardinals that live on the lake, and apparently it's good luck to see one. I said "I think I got one on camera", so we zoom in, and sure enough...I captured a picture of the very elusive and very lucky cardinal on New Years Day!! A wonderful omen of the good year to come.
MAY YOU ALL SEE A CARDINAL TODAY!!
That's it for today. Thank you for stopping in and for all the amazing comments. I read and appreciate every single one! If you have any questions, please let me know.
A fabulous post today Pamellia.....firstly a wonderful delicious card. You are doing brilliant creative things with those papers. I had not been that impressed by Tim's punches until I saw you amazing butterflies....wow what cuties you made.I also need to put that music die on my wish list.....it's gorgoeus. As for the photos...yes those icicle are beautiful but to see the red cardinal....he takes the biscuit. Keep snug and go and have a picnic on the middle table...perhaps it has secret heating?LOLOL xx

I am always in awe of your cards, Pamellia! I just want to reach in and handle them to see firsthand all the beautiful layering and texturing that you do. Love everything about this card especially that music die. The photo of the picnic table is too funny! The cardinal is beautiful among the bare trees.
ReplyDeleteVery gentle, airy Card Pamellia!!! A beautiful card - I really like!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the photo. I never met us this beautiful bird Cardinal ...
... and yesterday we just filled up with snow,
but became warmer up to minus 10, after almost 30 below zero - just comfort))))
I love reading your posts, always so interesting. Firstly your gorgeous card, those papers are so subtle in their design but you have still managed to allow them to shine through. Your gorgeous die cut details and elements are placed beautifully to create the pretty design. Then there are the lovely photos of your daily escapades which I really love to see through your eyes and how lucky to see that Cardinal too!
ReplyDeleteLorraine

ReplyDeleteOh how pretty that soft primrose yellow is - another exquisite card, Pamellia. And I loved seeing your icy photos, especially the cardinal... I'm sure you're right about that being a good omen on New Year's Day!
ReplyDeleteAlison xx

ReplyDeleteGorgeous card, Pamellia, and what a lucky friend to receive this beauty! Love the paper...your taste is exquisite, and the musical notes! I've had my eye on this die for awhile, and I think you may have just pushed me to the brink of buying! And I can't believe those flowers came from a punch, just like the last card! Amazingly realistic! Just another lovely, lovely card! I don't know here you get all your amazing ideas!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are so pretty, especially that of the cardinal. I never heard that "old wives tale" before about the cardinal, and although they have just started coming to my feeder outside my kitchen window, I can't recall if I saw one on New Years Day. Let's just say I did! Indeed it is a mystery why one table was cleared of snow! Perhaps a snow angel on expresso! Thank you for your wonderful post, as always! Big hugs, my friend!
A beautiful card with those sweet Pion Design papers. Your layers are always so lovely. Great photos, too. My mother in law always said if you see a cardinal the weather is about to change. We have them here in the Midwest and I feed them black oil sunflower seeds in the shell, which they love! However, the squirrels love those, too, so I am always mad at the squirrels. The female is a brownish color, with just a hint of red and the same shape head, so the photo is the male. He is very handsome.

Yummy!!!! Such gorgeous soft tones... what a great theme, there is just never any time to play these days xxx
ReplyDeleteI'm TOTALLY certain about one thing.... that gorgeous Cardinal has given you INCREDIBLY STUPENDOUS MOJO since New Year's Day Pamellia. This card is just INCREDIBLY BREATHTAKING. I thought yesterdays was one of my favorites - but nevermind... this one has stepped above the last!!!! Oh yes - please do more with that type paper - it has your name on it. But truly everything is just MORE THAN GORGEOUS - so intricate and delicate and stunning. I'm just awed by this one. Truly I am. Plus it takes me back to my childhood when Mama had a similar girl hanging in my room of delicate yellow striped wallpaper and white bedspreads with a music note lamp!!!! That could have swayed me a bit too!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are so fun to see. Most especially love the Cardinal picture since my family are life long Cardinal fans - born and raised in Missouri!!!! The picnic table is totally wild and crazy. And your 4" Christmas tree made me laugh out loud. What a joy you are!! Do you ever suck on icicles?? I used to - raised in Missouri I used to walk to school inside snow that was taller than I was and suck on an icicle along the way!!! Stay warm.... brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. My now Texas blood shivers thinking of you out walking in that coldness. j.
This is beautiful Pamellia, such a pretty image and lovely soft details.

I'm in love, firstly with your so very beautiful and delicate card which had me aaaaahhhhing when I set eyes on it. I am so happy that you do so many closeups to see ALL the detail. Secondly with the Cardinal bird, I suppose it's the first of it's kind I have seen in a tree, we don't have them here in the UK and this certainly stands out. Wishing you MUCH luck in this 2016 with the support of the Cardinal.
ReplyDeleteWe are not supposed to feed the grey squirrel as it is defined as a "pest" and has practically overrun our native red squirrel, which now only lives in a few areas of the UK. We do have 2 grey squirrels in our garden who steal the bird food. I agree they are so funny and cute and I take photos of them too.
Another gorgeous project, I can see why you love those papers. Super photos and I hope you have the luck from seeing the Cardinal.
ReplyDeleteYvonne xx
Pamela, this is just wonderful... so many pretty layers and lovely soft colors! I never think to use my Old Paper Distress ink... now I MUST pull it out... thank you for always inspiring!

All those beautiful photos and I forgot why I came here... Oh yeah, your delightful card for a friend, which any friend would be lucky to receive. My thoughts on the picnic table... footprints leading to it so yep, a Northerner was there before you. The cardinal... yep, you are lucky. To have sensed it. To have photographed it. Happy 2016!

Hi. Just found your marvelous blog thanks to my friend Loll (http://www.stampingwithloll.com/). She knows I love cardinals, and you captured a gorgeous photo of a brilliantly colored one! Really enjoyed seeing him in all his scarlet glory in the frostiness. Also had a delightful browse in the photos of your layers of delicate deliciousness in this beautiful card. So nice when our bloggers buddies think of us, when they see something on another blog that they know we'll enjoy & might miss. Looking forward to making a new friend! TFS
ReplyDeleteGreat vintage card. Thanks for joining us at Tuesday Throwdown for this challenge.
ReplyDeleteMargaret, DT
Love the creamy vintage tone you have given this and how you've added the song into it - great interpretation of the challenge theme xx
ReplyDeleteEverything you touch turns to gold dearie. Wonderous design and your layers just make me drool like I have rabies. Your color combo is so interesting to me and those papers lend such a softness to this gorgeous card. You do shabby chic amazingly fantabulous well. What can I say that hasn't already been said by the comments above!?! Stunning!
ReplyDeleteBubbles, My question to you is-the stacked/layered butterfly you made with the punch. How did you get the design onto the punched paper? Hope that makes sense. Hugz to you muffin! ~Doc
Thanks so much Doc!! Simple actually, I stamped on a piece of scrap paper then lined up the punch where I wanted it in the design. presto! hugs :)
DeleteOh Pamellia! Your card is just exquisite! So feminine and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMy oh my!you are so talented!!

Gorgeous card you created! Love all of the beautiful and delicate dies you used, especially the 'friend' one. And that sweet little charm, fabulous! Thanks so much for playing along with us at The Mod Squad Blog. LOVE your Cardinal photos--my most favorite!
ReplyDeleteThis is so soft and pretty with the Pion papers and all the wonderful embellishments and die cuts tucked here and there.
ReplyDeleteBTW when I told you not to touch the cattail it was mostly because they are really dirty at that stage but I found something online from a survivalist that said "You won't starve in the wilderness if you can find cattails. Every part of the plant is edible. But don't mistake a toxic look-alike, the poison iris, for the edible plant. Here is how to tell the difference." Now you would not be eating them but if it isn't a cattail and you got it on your fingers and could not remove it before the toxin got into your system, that could be a problem and I sure would hate for that to happen so hopefully you can identify that they really are cattails before you go ahead and touch them.
Hi Pamellia
ReplyDeleteSoooo elegant and classy and a very vintage feel to it.
Thanks for the explanation about the cattails. It had been intriguing me (little things and minds etc lol!)
Also, I don't think that you realised that you appear to have captured both Cardinal birds on camera.......if you look at roughly one o'clock in relation to the main bird, there is another fleck of red.....I may be wrong.
Best wishes.
Ang x
